A couple of months ago, someone here posted a link to 1Sale-a-Day when they had an offer of a free link to get a game from Big Fish Games (Madame Fate) - Check this thread. I took advantange of that offer and was lead to believe it was a reliable and reputable site.

Now, I'm not so sure!

On Veteran's day (November 11), they offered a special Veteran's Day Pin with red, white and blue LEDs for free with free shipping. After trying for several hours, I was able to order that pin. I never got it.

They claim to ship in 1 - 5 days. They say when shipping US Postal Service to wait an additional 7 - 14 days. That means you should have it within 3 weeks.

When I contacted them about the problem, they simply said that they were sent out in multiple batches and since they uses USPS, they have no tracking. Then they said to feel free to contact them if I have further inquiries.

After hours of fighting their site to make the order and 5 weeks of waiting they dropped me. I know I didn't pay for the pin in money but I did in time and effort and I feel they should have offered some sort of compensation.

If this is a general example of their customer service, I think everybody should steer very very very clear of them. I can only judge by my experience and I think you can guess the chances of them getting any of MY money!

That is unfortunate DL. Thanks for sharing your experience though. I always keep these kind of stories in the back of my head when dealing with sites.

A lot of their stuff is "remanufactured" if you look at the specs. That's how they do it so cheap.

I've not had any kind of experiences you have Diane. I've ordered at least a dozen times from 1Saleaday, in fact I just got a radar detector in the mail from them last week. I've only had one bad experience and that was beyond their control. USPS left the package at my neighbor's door instead of mine. That wouldn't have been so bad if it weren't winter in the middle of a snowstorm and my neighbor was visiting her son in Louisiana. Thinking that my package was lost, I e-mailed them and promptly got a response and within 3 days I had a replaced product for no charge. Seems like it may be a hit and miss kind of thing, or maybe just horrible service around the holidays.

I will say, though, that I did have quite a bit of trouble purchasing the radar detector. The page kept popping up with "too much traffic" errors. Perhaps that was the same time period that you had all of your troubles Diane?

P.S.

Yes, most of their stuff is refurbished, but that doesn't make them junk. Most any electronics that I buy are refurbished and the only bad experience I've had was with a pair of Razer headphones. One week in, and the left speaker went dead. Just makes me cautious when buying Razer refurbs.

Just an update on 1saleaday. I'm continuing to have problems with them and I thought I would "compare notes" to see just how common my problems are.

I never did get the "Veteran's Day" pin. My "compensation" offered was to order something else and then contact them for a partial refund. Huh? I can't trust them to deliver what I order and now I'm supposed to order again and then trust them to fulfill their end of the bargain? I'm NOT stupid!

Since then I have ordered three more freebies. The first one (a headset) had a tracking number and was received with no problems.

The next was a business card holder which was not received. Also, a second headset has not been received but it just shipped on Monday (beyond the 3-5 business days they promised for shipping).

I have contacted them on the business card holder which is beyond the delivery window they gave me. All they have said so far is it was normal USPS with no tracking and it should be here "soon".

Now the clincher. I did a BBB check on them. Check it out here. They have NO rating but have had 254 complaints in 3 years and 128 in the past year. Where it says there is no rating, it states that customers are complaining of not receiving their items or it is being delivered in poor or unusable condition.

I reiterate my topic - be EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS if doing business with this guy. For now, he's got my dander up. I'm mad and I'm gonna fight to get what I ordered or some reasonable compensation (better than that stupid - order and be refunded garbage).

It took a while, but I finally got the headset and cardholder. The cardholder came semi-quickly, about 2 weeks. Though it did have a a crease dent on the backside, but that could have been done by USPS. It was free, so I'm not complaining.

The headset was weak. The speakers are not very strong. I was very disappointed in it, but hey, I'm not out anything.
Think I'll go with a blue-tooth if I ever buy one.

I also buy stuff there all the time. I even have 2 orders due in few days, for Free Hot Wheels, Bottle Tops and also Art Deco - Leather watch+ LED Head Lamp. I called once, because the order was taking a long time and they were very polite, but never have had any problems.

I have purchased in the 10-15 times range from 1saleaday and have yet to have any of the problems you've had Diane. The only trouble I've had is that they do tend to be slow in shipping things. However I have attributed the extra slowness on the headsets and business card holder to the fact that they were free so I imagine they got hit pretty hard for those and it may take awhile to process. That's no excuse for taking as long as they have, but it may be a possible reason.

A friend ordered the business card holder about 8 or 10 hours AFTER I did. We both got the shipping notice at about the same time. She got hers within 2 or 3 days after that (well before the beginning of the 7 - 10 business day window) that I was told. They are shipping but I'm not receiving and I'm not getting good customer service. From the BBB report, I can see that I am definitely not alone.

Txnnok's report of his reaction to the damaged business card holder may explain that there are more problems that are not being reported. A product that is "weak", may be the product itself and beyond the scope of the companies responsibilities. However, every company has the responsibility to deliver your product to you UNDAMAGED and reasoning that it was free is beside the point. You ordered it and "paid" the requested price. You should receive your product as advertised with no scratches, dents or other damage. If it is coming that way, they are not packaging it properly to protect it and they should have to replace it at THEIR expense.

I have file a complaint with the NYC BBB about them. They tell me to contact them at a certain point if no delivery was made and then continue to say "wait". They're only "solution" is for ME to trust them, order and then go to the further trouble of paying and then contacting them for a partial refund. I can't trust them NOW and they want MORE????????

I get an email that says to call. I call and the recording says to use email! Something is telling me they want money but are willing to do virtually nothing as customer service.

An honorable company would have OFFERED a replacement of SOME sort but not this company. They are NOT honorable.

Believe it or not, I actually GOT an item from this company and just before the start of the 7 - 10 business day window. Tomorrow would be the 7th business day after shipping. it still doesn't compensate for the 2 items I never got and the extremely poor customer service. Right now, the BBB has accepted my complaint and is checking their side of it. I'm just waiting.

After 2 weeks of offer/counter-offer with the BBB mediating, I finally got this situation cleared up. It took more work than anticipated. Even the BBB had trouble getting any information from them and could not understand why they fought so hard on a trivial item. The worst part was when I accepted 1saleaday's offer and then they tried to back out of it! They are accredited by the BBB and part of that is an agreement to honor mediated settlements. It took a formal REJECTION of their final offer until it was fulfilled to finally close the issue.

Moral - don't believe these people. They tell you one thing that sounds reasonable and you think they would do anyway and then they don't.

They will never get a screaming Abe Lincoln from me!

I'm glad you got it resolved.
I have however had problems dealing with daily steals over an 8 dollar item. They got an order were I had bought some mp3 player confused with mp3 transmitter for a car. Each order look similar on paper and they thought I had already received it, but they had never shipped it. I got in a huge email tug of war with them.

Anyway, here is just the stuff I got this year. I have gotten tons of things over the years.

I find it strange, how some people can have good experiences with places and others have awful. I've got places that I wont do business with, but other people I know just love them.

They will never get a screaming Abe Lincoln from me!

Well, good to hear that things get resolved for Dragonlair.

Even after this thread is quite old now, I never understood, what it has to do with the GOTD forums. (Like a lot of other things - LOL)
I think such discussions are better done on a national consumers forum.
I changed the title to make it impartial.
