   Humble Indie Bundle #2 is now available. The games included this year are Braid, Machinarium, Osmos, Revenge of the Titans, and Cortex Command. I already have purchased Machinarium and Osmos so can recommend those two.

   If you aren't aware, these come as a package purchase where you get all of the games and pay whatever you think is fair. You then get to split up what you pay anyway you want between the five developers, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Child's Play Charity, and provide a tip to the Humble Bundle site itself if you want.

   Thanks Campy, always nice to see decent indie games on sale. I also have some of the games (Braid, Machinarium and Osmos), so will probably get it just for the other two. Especially as the money goes towards something worthwhile.

   Pay what you want. If you bought these five games separately, it would cost around $85 but we're letting you set the price!

   All of the games work great on Mac, Windows, and Linux.

   We don't use DRM. When you buy these games, they are yours. Feel free to play them without an internet connection, back them up, and install them on all of your Macs and PCs freely. There is no time-limit on your downloads.

   The game story progresses through five worlds – starting on Earth, which is basically the tutorial, and on to the Moon, then Mars, Saturn, and finally Titan itself. The background story is how Earth is launching a major offensive on the pesky Titans, and has to gradually secure each planet on the way in order to send the invasion fleet on to the next location.
   On Earth, you essentially learn the ropes. Revenge of the Titans is quintessentially a real-time strategy game, based on the tower defence mechanic.

   Here are Metacritic summaries of reviews and links to the reviews for the three finished games: Braid 90%, Machinarium 85%, and Osmos 80%.

   The other two are still under development and pretty far from complete. You are buying them in their current status plus get rights to future updates. Demos are available at the links given above so you can get an idea of what you will get.

   I see there is now a message up about time left. Right now it says there are 3 days and 21 hours left. So that means it is going to end on Tuesday. I suppose it is possible they could extend it or make it available again later, but if you want it the wise thing to do is to get it now.

   Well, they have extended it. Now it is set to end at 6 pm EST on Christmas Day.

   Also, like they did for the first one you can now activate the games on Steam as well as getting downloads. I have already done this successfully. You can get the three completed games (Braid, Machinarium and Osmos) on Steam now and you will get the other two when they are finished.

   This morning I got an email saying that bundle #1 had been added to my package. This didn't actually do anything for me as I already had purchased #1. However, checking the Humble Bundle site, I see there is a message that they are trying to bring their average paid up so anyone that pays more than the current average ($7.37) will get both bundles. I had paid more than that for bundle #2 so I am sure that is why I got the message.

   Christmas is supposed to be the last day the Humble Bundle will be available.

    Just seen the email. Was surprised to see the first one was being included, which I also bought, though I already had all of the games before that. I just wanted to give something to a worthy cause as well as have DRM free games. The main difference between the first and second is that I didn't have Cortex Command and Revenge of the Titans, both of which are great Indie games..

    WR: So you buy so many games that to provide value to you they need to continue to offer games while they are still in beta status? Wow!

    The average price is currently up to $7.46 so now you have to top that amount to get both packages.

    Yep, that’s about right. (I use games as distraction therapy for the constant pain I’m in. I find new games seem to work better so i buy games every day. It may seem a waste as some games get discarded after only one play, but most are returned to at some point. I had to stop buying DVD based games as there wasn't enough room on my book shelves. I had to start putting them in my wardrobes and drawers, lol.

    Even $20 is a bargain for so many excellent games. The average price of an arcade game three years ago was $19.99, so to pay that for 11 really good indie games is just awesome. Of course some of the game won’t appeal to everyone, but if you like indie, you'll probably love most of the titles. The only one I don't particularly like is Lugaru, but then i was never into Beat em up games. I did buy Zeno Clash because it was so wacky and i loved the art style. I also bought Street fighter IV for the same reasons; well for the art style, not so much the wackiness. Zeno clash is more than just a beat Em up though as you can use weapons and the game is set in a world as opposed to just an arena, then again so is Lugaru.

    WR: I agree with you about the price of games. Compare the price to going to movies or buying a DVD that takes a couple of hours to watch. Even new games at full price are a bargain on a $/hour basis if they are good. You can pay more for a hamburger or even a premium cup of coffee than the minimum price to get the two Humble Bundles (although I paid more than that for them).

    I am always looking for a bargain, but often will buy an Indie game I think is OK with the thinking that I like supporting Indie developers. They are part of what makes the PC special.

    Revenge of the Titans has now been released on Steam. i'm presuming anyone that bought the humble bundle will get a steam key for the game. not sure yet how this happens a si can't find my order details at the moment. The email is buried amongst a few thousand emails. At least I know the approximate date of purchase, which should narrow the search down. :)

    It looks like tower Defence games are making a comeback, with two more TD games released over the last few weeks. Anomaly: Warzone Earth, which is a reverse tower defence game and tasks you with saving a near-future Earth from an alien onslaught. The invaders have captured world’s major cities, building huge turrets that destroy everything in their path. It’s up to you to lead an armor squad through the streets of cities like Baghdad and Tokyo, planning the route and strategically choosing which units to deploy in order to crush the opposition. Take control of the Commander, whose special abilities and quick thinking will be vital in supporting the squad in its mission, as you engage in fast-paced, tactical battle across story campaign and two heart-pounding Squad Assault Modes.     Then theres Sanctum which is a first person shooter tower defense where you take on the role of Skye, an elite soldier sent out to protect her home town, Elysion One, from hordes of mysterious alien creatures.

    To succeed you have to construct and upgrade defensive structures. What makes Sanctum unique from other TD games is that when the havoc starts, you jump right into the action with your own weapons and play a key role in the defense. Sanctum has taken the best features from first person shooters and tower defense games to create something totally unique.
