a montior to keep going into sleep mode? I have an HP1907 montior and after taking the computer back to factory settings the computer would constantly go into sleep mode every time you started the computer up. It only started after I took the computer back to factory settings. It happened before once when I was just on the computer and another time when I took the computer back to factory settings.

HP wants to sell me a new monitor. Why does it work and then suddenly not work? Thank you.

Does it go into sleep mode immediately or after a few secomds or minutes? The power settings may be set to only a minute or so?

When I started the computer before Windows loads. This happens once in a blue moon but it does happen. My dad got it on by taking the monitor plug off the back and blowing into it, but that makes no sense to me that it would start doing that when I took the computer back to factory settings. It has happened once before when I didn't take the computer back to factory settings. It just makes no sense to me why it would occur when taking the computer back to factory settings. Thank you.

Mine is sleeping in computer hell, since some time. Never again HP for me.

Sorry, to say that.

I had a HP laptop, and had that "sleeping" monitor from the beginning, suddenly it was fine, then black again, fine for some months - dead for always.
Later I heard that HP is infamous for that and for bad support; at least in my region.

I have an HP monitor; came with my HP Compaq PC. I've never had any problems with mine, that I can recall, at the moment. Michelle, dumb/silly question (maybe), but have you messed with the power settings for your monitor? Not too long back, and only for a short while, I set mine to where my monitor shuts off after so many minutes, and my hard drive likewise. When I would 'wake it back up', I had to go through this rigmarole to get it usable again, so I changed the settings back.

Funny I went to look up the problem in yahoo search and HP came up. I just had a load of problems with that. Hopefully it is gone. Yeah HP wanted me to buy a new monitor which in time I will probably have the same problems with that one if I buy one. Then I downloaded windows updates and after updating windows would not load. It was stuck on 100 and I could not get to the desktop. So I had to restore it again. Then it would not accept my password so I had to restore it again.

No, I haven't messed around with the power settings.

Try Right click DeskTop > properties > Screen Saver > None > Power > Turn off monter none or 20 mins > Turn off harddisk never > Hibermate never > sleep never (try see if ok) may some seting on montior as well, may be bad Graphics Display Drivers or card try up date the drivers, more info dose it do this at boot befor you log in ?

I only have onboard graphics. My brother Matt tightened the wires in the back of it. It seems to be okay for now. What really makes me wonder is why that would happen with the wires after taking the computer back to factory settings.

It could be explained if the monitor had been moved over the period between turning the computer on and taking the settings back to factory settings, especially if the plug wasn't tightly fitted into the back of the monitor. (Just a suggestion)

It wasn't moved at all. All I did was take the computer back to factory settings. I don't even need a disk for that. HP makes them so you don't need the disk. I have a disks, but didn't use it.

Change your power options. Mine set at Balanced.

Control Panel>Power Options>change Advance Power Settings

Click on Sleep + (settings should read) Sleep After...20 minutes.....Allow Hybrid Sleep setting On.......Hibernate after..Never

Click Apply. Now restart the computer.

Hi Michelle, I have an HP L1710 monitor (LCD) that I use with my Compaq PC, and this is how my Power Options are set up:

Control Panel > Power Options > Power Schemes Tab (leftmost at the top):

1) 'Power schemes:' is set to "Energy Star"
2) 'Turn off monitor:' is set to "After 20 mins."
3) 'Turn off hard disk:' is set to "Never"
4) 'System Standby:' is set to "After 25 mins."
5) 'System hibernates:' is set to "Never"

It seems to be fine now so I am just going to leave week enough alone. Now I am having a problem with Windows updates.

I didn't have a problem this time. Yesterday I had a problem where it just said configuring updates, but windows would not load. It was stuck on the configuring updates screen.

Just a thought but is it the PC or the monitor going into sleep mode?
the monitor will go to sleep if it doesn't have a video signal so it could be a dodgy video(VGA) lead or loose sockets at either end.
It's not a common fault from my experience in video game machines but it does happen
and its worth checking.

that sounds like a full wipe back to the os and apps it came with from the factory.

the restore partition usually just overwrtes all.

that would also reset the drivers to that point too. the old driver may not be seeing the monitor if the pins are shaky- the output lines 'look' for a 75 ohm load on the color lines to find what's connected. then the os reads the dcc lines.

also, make sure the restore didn't put you back to service pack 2- if so you need to get the sp3 offline installer to get updates running again.

sure, hp is a pain- but dell is right down there too.

hd-25 plugs and sockets can get intermittent- how old is this rig?
