   GOTD is back on-line!

   Hello everybody,
   we are aware of the situation with Giveaway of the Day site and are sorry for the inconvenience. Our domain record domain was supposed to auto-renew but failed for some reasons that have yet to be investigated.
   Let us assure you that domain has successfully been renewed, still the system needs time to get the site back to proper work.
   For those users who still experience problems with access to GOTD, please stay on-line or try to reach us in several hours. We will finally be back! :)

   Well, after trying several times earlier today to see what the offer was, I can now read the page for History Explorer.

   However, when I tried to download it (the ZIP file), instead I got that pesky "direct NIC" "this domain is expired" page.

   C'mon GOTD, pry their fingers off your web site! I want to try out History Explorer v2.2 (and am hoping it doesn't crash like last year's v1.1 did on my machine).

   current History Explorer 2.2 is going to be available for 3 more hours. New giveaway will start as usually at 3:00 (UTC-4).

   GOTD, you have offered some great stuff, thank you. I downloaded your "WinX DVD Ripper Platinum 6.0" Giveaway last night, but when I tried to install it, I kept getting an error, and then noticed the registration glitch where the DirectNic page was displaying. There was about an hour and a half left on that Giveaway. With that down, I was getting a "key error" and couldn't install the Giveaway. Any way of letting people still install that Giveaway, as you're extending today's Giveaway for 3 hours due to the same glitch. Thanks much!

   I had to use a proxy also, but that only is working to get to the site, I was able to dl the giveaway, but the activate exe says fatal error key is invalid. i dont know how to proxy the activate??

   There is less than one hour left on the gotd extension for it, so what do i do?

    Thank you, graylox, for the suggestions, but I have done this, I have cleared the browser entirly, and i have cleared my DNS cache also, thru ccleaner. There is still the parked page if i come to the site without the proxy. and the activate still has fatal error :(

    Yes, it has made no difference, i still cannot get to the gotd page without proxy and the program activate cannot access to verify the gotd time, and now it is too late :(

    Make sure, that IE is not in off-line modus, even when IE is not your browser for surfing.
    Close down your system completely for some minutes. Even the router.
    Have a coffee and some chocolate.
    Then restart everything.

    ids, what's wrong about the blog links?
    Even when you use Firefox, to complete the GOTD activation, IE may not be in off-line modus.

    Whoa, heh heh...that was - hairy! I know I haven't been here for a while, but tonight, when I attempted a "drive by" and got the Domain Expired page, I just about had a heart attack! Really guys, I saw my entire digital life flash before my eyes! Graylox was there, White Rabbit was there, and Bubby? You were there too! (starts whispering to self - there's no place like home LOL)...for just a moment, I actually thought you guys had bit the big one and didn't bother telling me....
    Still having problems getting in here, but at least I know it's temporary...seems like every time I turn around, another website I frequent goes down. Mostly, they're 3d related vendors and/or forums - it's always sad when that happens, but some of them have been real heartbreakers. That's just the way things are right now - but still, I was totally unprepared for the panic I felt at the thought of GOTD and the gang not being here anymore. So much for being a tough cookie LOL!

    Now, where's the next giveaway scheduled for Anvir Task Pro?! It's been awhile, and it usually puts in 2 appearances a year LOL!

    I noticed that for much of yesterday I could not access the web page for History Explorer 2.2 (nor GOTD forums, blog, etc.) at all, nor can I reliably today. However, if I used the IP address " http://208.88.224.199/history-explorer-2-2/ " I could. I could use the same "trick" to get to today's RipTiger Full.

    However, on what is now yesterday's expired History Explorer the trick does not work to "view all comments".

    Is this to say that your web site registration problems are corrected, and I (and others) am the victim of slow-to-update domain name servers? It's REALLY annoying since all the links on your pages use the domain names (of course) rather than the numerical IP address.

    Is there any way to force the servers to update ahead of a routine schedule? I would think this issue is seriously impacting your traffic and therefore revenue stream.

    What happened a little while ago? It was at the domain expired message and then about a half hour later - it's back to normal. I had to laugh because my main board has been even more of a yo-yo lately. I hope we STAY up this time!

    Hooray.. so glad to see this is back. As above, I was actually feeling depressed about this and now can say I'm back 'home' again!!! Glitches DO happen.. I've been unable to get my emails since last night.. my server was changing services, and she did warn me, but there were problems. Just got off the phone (2 am here), since 9 pm, with a 3 way conference call for a tech in Washington DC taking control of my computer to fix everything! He said Outlook Express was my problem and switched me to Mozilla Thunderbird and got me back up and running again! Now with GOTD back, my life is complete! LOL

    Here I was starting to think I'm just simply not going to be able to access the site, anymore, and withdrawal-yet-forced-acceptance symptoms started creeping in. I had done everything I could think of, and this was after word had gotten out that the domain had been renewed. I found out via a cached page (GOTD blog team), through Google, though I only got the first part of their announcement. I kept checking, but nothing changed, and just a few minutes ago I got the idea of restarting my computer. That I got on here after doing that is likely just a coincidence since they said it could take a while to get everything back to normal; that's the part I didn't see on that cached page. Well, anyway, it's good to be back! :D

    So glad the site is back online. But due to the problem, I missed the Inca Ball game download. Can you please re-run it, like maybe this weekend? Or sometime soon? I would like to get it & since it really wasn't our issue........

    It would have been a very sad day indeed if we had lost the giveaway project. It's the only web site I do visit daily now so I'd have felt a little lost.

    To pandapal, you can get Inca Ball free 24/7 from MyPlayCity and Game Top, though it's called Azteca when you download from Gametop.....

    N.B.

    Don't forget that games from both sites open up your internet browser once you close the game down, but this is innocuous. Gametop has bcome a little more aggressive over the last year, with pop ups on the increase and a lot of the games by default will install tool bars and/or hijack your home page if you don't uncheck the appropriate field jusring the installation wizard.

    If you've been wondering about time to access GOTD site again, around the world there are DNS servers that keep a record of website urls and their servers. It takes time, sometime a few days for all these servers to be updated. You can actually access open DNS servers from different countries. Just Google Open DNS. Some people got the site back hours or days sooner if their local DNS servers were the first or early in the queue to get updated!

    Thanks chazzo 125, for some explanations and for reminding about OpenDNS.
    I have installed it years ago - and nearly forgotten about it. It's such a typical helper "tool" you can install and then forget - if you want.
    Is it therefore, GOTD was back for me after only a short time? I could not understand, that others had / have problems for such a long time.

    Worth to have a look at the Open DNS website and to install it. It is one module more for a safer computer experience.

    Nice to see you at least now and then. Yes, some of the "old" family are still here and some "youngsters" have joined.
    The sudden close down of our favourite watering hole was a deep hit for all of us.
    But thank goodness, it was a false positive ;)
