   I'm involved in a couple of sites that are definitely book related. One of them, Booktastic.org has a library of free ebooks (with links to such as Gutenberg.org and Manybooks.net) and the other discusses specific types of books (and other media) in The Venus Café.

   I have found Calibre but it doesn't really do what I want -- convert from "normal" PC text/document formats as well as ebook formats to other ebook formats. Calibre doesn't handle azw format.

   Has anybody found any free software that might help me?

   When you google:" convert from azw" you get several links - a lot are just junk.

   As far as I know are most .azw files DRM protected, so I don't know how legal the tipps of that techarena link is.
   I doubt there is one converter for all formats.

   Didn't we get ebook readers as GOTD lately? Don't remember the day, try to find them, often other users post some good advice.

   I don't want to convert FROM azw - I want to convert TO azw. It just seems to work well and I do have Kindle for PC (free) so I can download directly from Amazon.com. I know Kindle will handle .mobi but I've seen some in that format that are just totally unreadable.

   I use Calibre (freeware) for most of my ebook conversion needs. Here is a list of what it can import/convert. Although I mostly use it for converting various ebook formats it also is a great ebook manager.

   I like using it to help me reformat ebooks I get off of Project Gutenberg. I convert the epub/txt/html file to rtf and than use Word to format the book. Once it is formatted I can than convert it to just about any ebook format I want.
