My hard drive with the game lost its config file. I was able to copy the original game zip file to a memory stick but the game would not look to see if it had been activated and says that the activation time has expired.
Is there any way to get the game activated again on my new hard drive?

Hi snowwhite1; welcome to the GOTD forums! Any software we get from GOTD cannot be reactivated, re-downloaded, or re-installed if we lose it for any reason (after the giveaway period is over). When you download software, you are given a choice as to where you want to save/install it to. If you saved/installed the software to, say, a memory stick/jump drive, and your computer's hard drive crashes, you should still be able to access the files on that jump drive, from another computer.
Not always. If the install involved registry entries, you may be out of luck.

If you back up your Windows registry on another drive or USB stick and re-copy to Windows (many registry utility programs will do the re-copying!), this usually allows pre-installed program files to work. If you lose these too, you will need setup files eg from the producer that run independently of GOTD or GAOTD. Run all of these first, THEN restore your backup registry. If you have a serial number, you can re-use this, provided it doesn't do a live online check!
This won't always work, if the setup file is a different version! Good Luck!

Not that I am aware of. I think if you need to install it again. You will have to pay for it. Technically that is what giveawayoftheday is about. To get unknown developers a chance to get their programs known so if you need to install it again you pay for it.
I downloaded a game (the monthly giveaway from alawar) and I had a copy installation saved on idrive. I was unaware of this. I tried to install it again and when I installed it. It was a trial.
Michelle is of course right. There is no legal way to reinstall any GOTD. When you download from this website, you have to accept the terms and conditions, which you find on the first page.
When you have lost a GOTD you have to pay for a registration key, pay the developer for his work. Or wait until the giveaway will come in repeat some day.
Some of the GGOTD games are free-standing / portable, and even very few of the programmes too. But that are exceptions. RosenSC was speaking about those exceptions.
