   I have downloaded loads from this site but I have had difficulties over the last 2-3 days. I get the Setup & Help files OK. Click on the set-up and the box 'Connecting to 'Etc but there it hangs and my system locks!

   tried the same download on lappy and no probs, so I know it is my computer and not the site but can anyone help here.

   have run Malwarebytes and Spybot and both found half a doz infections. They are now gone. Ran 360Amigo (Basic freebie version as I couldn't get the full one) and that cleaned up a lot.

   Still cant get past the connecting to box.

   Computer locks and I have no alternative but to hit the mains switch.

   Running Xp sp3 Dell Dimension 3.40 gigahertz Intel Pentium D

   Any suggestions as to where to look next?

   Could it be that the software installed by GAOTD on my 'puter is corrupt and I need to re-install it?

   Rizzla,
   GOTD doesn't install any software on your computer apart from the programs you chose to install.But some software on your computer might have incorrect/corrupt entries.

   You could try cleaning up your third party firewall rules for 'setup.exe' or/and make sure the outgoing communication isn't blocked.
   Cleaning up IE/FF cache and temp folders might help too.

   And even if you use an alternative browser,you'll have to check if IE is NOT set to work off line .

   If you did too much of that cleaning up stuff you could be forced to repair IE or reinstall your firewall starting from scratch with a new set of rules.

   Hi, rizla01,
   why did you have to eliminate so many malware files? Have you never thought about prevention?
   Don't you have a firewall and an anti-virus programme? When your doors are open for any malware, it's no wonder when your system gets severe malfunctions. Of course no protection is 100 %, therefore tools like Malwarebytes and Spybot are needed.
   Please take some time to learn about security, e.g. here:

   Or scan our forums, we have discussed that topic several times.

   Programmes like 360Amigo should not be used by inexperienced users (if at all). Why not use the rather secure CCleaner - Slim, but even that with both eyes wide open.
   Cleaners -especially- registry "cleaners" are often the reason for misbehaving computers.

   The only "software" GOTD installs on your computer are cookies. Yes, they can be corrupted. Delete them, they will be renewed with your next visit on this website.
   Then clean your caches (browser-, download-) and try again to activate a giveaway.

   Hi.

   Forgot to mention that I have Onlne Armour running along with Avast so I have absolutely no idea how I should get Malware - but I did.

   I also regularly run Ccleaner and Glary from time to time (Which I believe will clean out ALL cookies).

   I ran 360 (Got the full version working now) :) and ran that based on the experience that I had when I ran it on the laptop and other posters experience.

   Have now done a system restore (Luckily there was a restore point left from the 8th) and I am about to try the download again. Firstly I will use Firefox rather than i.e.

   Hello rizla01,

   If your problems started a couple of days ago try the Windows System Restore. You should have several restore points to choose from. Just in case your not aware of that feature System Restore is a component of Windows XP that you can use to restore your computer to a previous state. And without losing your personal data files such as documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, pictures, e-mail, etc. The System Restore monitors changes to the system and some application files, and it automatically creates easily identified restore points. Those restore points allow you to revert your PC to a time when you didn't have any problems. The restore wizard will guide you through the steps of each task. You'll be able to pick a calendar date when everything was fine. So if you didn't have any problems four or five days ago, just restore it to that point.

   I've on occasion had similar type problems on my PC where one day everything is working fine, then the following day some problem will crop up. It's most annoying when it happens. I'd be shaking my head and asking myself what the heck is going on here!?" I would spend hours, sometimes days trying to fix it. Now I just say to myself "F This" and do a system restore. Then a few minutes later BAM, I'm back in the saddle again.

   Malwarebytes !! is GOTD in block list it works like a firewall in & out.
