Bos Wars: (62.2Mb)
Bos Wars is a free RTS game set in a futuristic world that has similarities to the Command & Conquer series. This real-time strategy game asks the player for some thought on creating his economy and building a respectable army to protect his base and attack the rivals. The player has to combat his enemies while developing his war economy. Everything runs in real-time, as opposed to turn-based games where the player always has to wait for his turn. The trick is to balance the effort put into building his economy and building an army to defend and attack the enemies.
Bos Wars has a dynamic rate based economy. Energy is produced by power plants (where magma gets pumped from hot spots) which increase the economic output thus allowing the control of bigger parts of the game map. Buildings and mobile units are also built at a continuous rate. Control of larger parts of the map creates the potential to increase your economy throughput. Holding key points like roads and narrow canyons/ passages allow for different strategies.
It is possible to play against human opponents over LAN, internet, or against the computer. Bos Wars successfully runs under Linux, MS Windows, BSD, and Mac OS X. The game is mouse controlled.

The game works on both XP and win 7. (Not been able to test it on Vista as my Vista isn’t working at the moment. The game installs to C:\Program files\Boswars by default. No shortcuts are installed to either the desktop or start menu. There is an uninstaller in the games folder. You could create a shortcut in the Start menu/programs list if you wish. I posted a short tutorial on how to do this in the games discussion forums. Unfortunately you’ll have to sift through the pages as I tidied up the sticky section the other day and deleted the one for the shortcut tutorial.
