Hi, and welcome ilucy !
When you install the programme look out if there is any toolbar or the like you are asked to install. Just uncheck or click no if you don't want that.
The programme is very effective, I use it since several years.graylox

Close all programs that is using that file. If you still have problems, check and make sure there isn't anything using the file with Task Manager and close it from there. Still not able to delete it, then restart the computer and delete it afterwards.
It happens to me when I am using a portable harddrive, even when I think its shut down.

Yes Unlocker is a great tool. I have used it for quite a while now. It really can be a big help when you are not sure what program is using the file but you know something is. Like Tiffany said, frequently is it is a portable drive or something that is causing the problem. Unlocker lets you see what it is and then lets you unlock it.

Even if Unlocker can't tell what is locking up the file, it will often let you do what you wanted to do with it.

graylox, thanks for the link.. I've had need for this on several occasions! Now HOW do I get rid of that bing bar? I finally uninstalled the program and it still has a bing search box!

Hi Copmom have you tried looking under tools in commodo as if it is listed there you should be able to remove it by using the uninstall function.

When these silly tool bars get installed, they are independent of the product that pushed them on you. There is usually a separate uninstall for them. I would look for it with Revo Uninstaller or use Revo's hunter-mode.

Copmom,in Firefox go to tools- add-ons.
Most probably there's an entry somewhere for that Bing Tool bar and a way to remove it.Graylox, thanks again for that link to "unlocker".

Just my two cents about Unlocker,
1) just make sure you download the correct edition (32 or 64-bit).
2) You might unlock all handles but still not be able to manually delete the file, and when trying again to unlock the file, find that unlocker still shows locks.
In this case, you should Select "Delete" (You will find this in the box at the bottom left that says no action, just click on the down arrow to select) before clicking "Unlock All".
3) If you are using Windows Vista or 7, you might also run into another problem as files have to be owned by the one who wants to delete them.
You might need to take ownership of the files, and then assign yourself rights to delete or modify the file.
Here are links for further information:

Hope this helps

Couldn't find 'tools' in Comodo, or Revo, but yes, it was listed in add on's in firefox tools, so diabled it there. Gee, I hate when they slip things in on you. I just got through removing a file that popped up called Microsoft Live ID. Only way I found it was in start up right clicked for properties.

@Copmom
Don't just disable it, you should go back in add-ons and remove it also!
Also, if you have Glary, CCleaner or similar, do the clean up steps for browsers (except cookies) and Registry entries.
Don't go overboard with that cleaning as there is no need to scrub it down to nothing, the regular cleanup settings should be enough!

Sorry Copmom I got it wrong what I should have said was CCleaner as this has helped me out before.

Thanks.. forgot about Ccleaner!! Will do, and firefox add on's didn't give an option to remove, just disable! Grrrrrrr.

I saw this tip on a blog, some time ago. It's slightly off-topic, but could be useful to someone...
When run, the following batch file will automatically shut-down an unresponsive program.
To create the batch file, follow these steps:
1. Create a new file in Notepad.exe.
2. Type the command line: taskkill /f /fi "status eq not responding"
3. Save the text file as kill-task.bat
4. to execute the batch file, double-click the icon/shortcut.-----------
(I tried this tip in Windows 7 and it worked on my system.)Posted 13 years ago # -
There is an option to remove search engines in FF Copmom, its the tiny arrow next to the magnifying glass ( it looks like a speck of dirt ) on the search bar.I have used it to get rid of ASK, EBAY, and the long list of others you might find hiding under there. There is a similar arrow in IE.
