I just went to Caiman games and found out the page has been changed. When you go to the site it says "Welcome To Horde" and there is a place where you have to log in.

It could be because Rudy the original owner of the site passed away back in February. It's a shame that they have decided to change the name as personally I think he created a brilliant free game resourse that I've used many a time when I was stuck for games to post in our free games project. I've not visited for some time so will have to go check it out and see.
I do think it's an affront to his memory though as he wanted a free games site open to all. Many are opposed to registering to gain access to such sites, so it may exclude this from visiting.

I think maybe someone didn't pay the hosting fees. Looks like the page changed into a login page for their email system.

Yes Horde is a email system don't worry that's not the site lol. Here's a cached copy of the site so you can see it looked fine as of July 26th so it may be a temporary thing.

the last time I was at caiman ( 7/12? everything was fine...no one said a word about the site going away..wait and see , I guess..

Caimen.com is still up and running, I just checked with Chip's supplied site.

The front page to Caimans is accessible, but none of links to the various game genres or the list of games that are always posted (that used to be updated until Rudy's passing) work. I was hoping Rudy's colleague was going to keep the site up and running. If this is the end of Caiman games it's a real shame as the resource he'd built up is a treasure.

I don't know where CheryIL or Stephen are accessing a working Caiman site at, but I still get the initial login for horde. The link that Chip provided was an archived image of the site, so the links within are sure to not work fully.
Horde is not simply an e-mail system. Horde is code-based framework used to some things like e-mail and PHP. I'm with GM on this, they probably didn't have enough money to pay their hosting fees.

Hi Wizz, I'm not gtting anything from Caimans. I just worded my post above badly. The front page is the archived image, which i called the front page. and i agree with GMMan, the site was probably financed by rudy, so unless someone is a fanatic (as I think he was) it's hard in these times of recession to fork out the money. it's a massive sahme. if I'd have known i'd have gone through the site to search out all those hidden gems. not only were there thousands of games there were links to many game developers home pages. I wish we'd got some sort of warning.

Well and the biggest fear for me is the games synopsis. We have quite a number of games that were from Caiman. Some of them may not have had alternative download sites such as the developer's site, as Rudy was fond of hosting developing developer's games (hope that's clear for everyone lol) I know there shouldn't be hundreds of download links to Caiman but there are probably close to 50 of them. Let's hope this is only a temporary glitch.

Some days ago I visited the Caiman site and found several dead links, thought that was a bad sign.
There was not only Caiman.us which seems to be abandoned now.
Have a look atand try some links, there is still something to find.
Like :

I have not so much time now, maybe someone else is adventurous to find useful links.

The forum appears to be down as well as there have been no postings since the 13th. That doesn't mean that it is in fact down though. They could just have a less than active forum.

Hi there the latest news I could find is Caiman Site Update Info.
By the info there they are working on a new version and porting over the database, so here's hoping it all comes good.
Posted 14 years ago # -
Some of the guys are working on the site. part of the problem is that Rudy did his own programming...in several different computer languages ....some things don't do anything at all, some are "surprises"....so, they are trying to make it something they can work with. They are all pretty smart , I think Caiman will be back.
Posted 14 years ago # -
That's good news, but will means some work to replace all the dead links.
I have most of the games posted in the synopsis, so could easily upload the ones that can't be found elsewhere. It will be an annoyance, but I'm sure it'll get sorted eventually

I checked http://caiman.us/ today, and the site is up and working again.
I was able to download and run Bonzala without a hitch ( http://www.caiman.us/scripts/fw/f12.html ).Posted 14 years ago # -
That's good news.

I am Nicholas, from caiman.us I am the current administrator, togerther with Namo and the owner, Ibo. We are working hard to start updating the site once again. Hopefully, it won't be long until we start updating it.

Hi Nicholas Caiman, that's brilliant news. I've checked the site on a regular basis for over a year hoping that things would improve. I’m so sorry about Rudy. A great loss to the gaming community for his work in compiling such a brilliant collection of free games. I look forwards to seeing the updated site. i do hope we see the old daily spot light and the week’s top ten list. I used to always check through that list first as there was always something worth downloading. The site is still brilliant and I look forwards to many years of browsing. Please do check through our free games list as I’m sure you will find many games that are not on your lists. I’ve had a dedicated group of enthusiasts working for the past two years compiling a list of the better freeware and abandon ware games. The synopsis isn't up to date at the moment as I've been rather ill and not updated it since January, but you can find all the games posted since January in the Game discussion forums. all the games posted start with a week number. we started the project back in September 2008 in response to the lack of a free game giveaway at the time. :)
If you need any help moderating the site I’d be really happy to help. I've been moderating and admining here as well as other sites for several years now. I'm retired so have a lot of time on my hands. It would be a privilege helping on the site if needed. :) Just PM me

I am Namo, the same working with Nicholas and Ibo. Any help that you can give us, Whiterabbit, would be appreciated dearly.
Feel free to send any PMs to me as well. Or if you like, you can eMail me, (dynamicite<AT>live.com).
Thanks!

This is truly good news. Thanks, Nicholas and Namo. I will be looking forward to the updated site.

Great news! Best wishes to Namo, Nicholas and Ibo with their work on this wonderful site.
Posted 13 years ago # -
Thanks a lot everyone. We will keep you updated. If you want to help, you can help us increase the activity in the forum (http://www.caifox.com). Until Ibo accepts our offer to take care of the site, we are very limited on what we can do.
Thanks again, Nicholas.

Thanks graylox, *very stupid of me*. Graylox, the problem is, if you have two Administrators, and you don't have time to manage the site yourself, wouldn't you be hesistant to give the site to them? This is our situation. We hope he accepts, after all we are not doing this just for ourselves, but for all of you. That is why all your comments are needed. Currently there is a lack of activity, that is why we two are trying to get the site working again. If we manage to pull this through(and I hope we do) we two will be the ones taking care of the website. I am only 15, and Namo is only slightly older than me, so we both have enough time on our hands(especially me) to be able to manage it.
Posted 13 years ago # -
This is fantastic. It will be a wonderful tribute to Rudy to have the site updated regularly. Thank You Nicholas and Namo - it will be brilliant if you can pull this through!
Caiman has been one of my all-time favourite free games sites for a very long time!

We've encountered another obstacle... Hope we can defeat it like we have with others.
Posted 13 years ago # -
We are doing all we can.

I am sorry to say, that despite the effort we have both put in in the last year and a half, the site's future looks very bleak. I am sorry that I have let you down, but I am proud to say that we have done everything possible, and as things stand, we are still working hard to change the website's fate. I will post some details later as I don't want to speak about it for now. Thanks for understanding, Nicholas.

If all else fails, a last ditch effort might be to rebuild the site from scratch, following current standards.
Posted 13 years ago # -
I will Email you tomorrow. I'm willing to put in some hours each day to help. I have a lot of time on my hands, most of it spent sleeping. Helping the site would be a much better option if the hours I can give you would help. I've been rather snowed under over the last week catching up on many of the things I'd let go over the past few months. I do hope the site doesn't close down. It would be a great loss to the freeware games community if it did. IMO it's still the best free games site out there despite the problems you've been having.
Regards
Whiterabbit
