THE DARK MOD 2.0 is a free, first-person stealth game inspired by the Thief series by Looking Glass Studios. It recreates the essence of the original Thief games on a more modern engine. Both a game and a mission-creation platform, The Dark Mod allows players and mappers alike to enjoy missions in a gothic steampunk universe.

I played The Dark Mod when it was a mod for Doom 3 but I think I had problems running it, for some reason - I'll have to try the stand-alone version.
WR I have very low hopes for Thief 4. I followed the game from the time it was announced almost 4 years ago with keen interest, and they pretty much just threw out all of the fan suggestions. An early playthrough I saw awarded bonus points for shooting a guy in the head - pretty much the opposite of what Thief is about.
Quick-time events are supposed to feature prominantly as well, so no more mantling - it's a QTE.
The Thiefs are my favourite series. I played The Dark Project demo over and over again and Shalebridge Cradle is about the best level in any game I've played, but I don't know how they'll do with 4.
I'll be thrilled to be proven wrong, but it really looks like they've catered to the console Call of Duty group than the fans they said they wanted to please.
So far Dishonored is the best Thief sequel I've played.

Thanks for the update BentlyTCow. I've not followed the development up to now. i do hope you are wrong. :)
By the way, I've finally fixed the problems with my computer. Still not got settled into my new study (wont be able to until the tiling has been finished. (end of this month).
I'd previously arranged several Left 4 Dead and/or Left 4 Dead 2 games with all of Davids friends; sort of a remembrance of his days. I'm still thinking of him every day and would like all of his old friends whether just acquaintances or those who played with him regularly to join in.
Please email me or send a PM if you are still interested in joining in. The best time for a game will be between 10pm to 1am Fridays. The reason for this is because one of our friends (Ghost Zero/Sonny) from Singapore works as a chef and has odd hours. He usually only gets Saturday mornings off and has said he would like to play with us. Saturday morning in Singapore equates to Friday late evening in the UK and late afternoon to early evening in the US.
We can also play at other times. I'm usually available most evenings and even late morning and early afternoons (GMT) during the weekdays.
p.s.
I've also suggested other games we played together such as Half Life 2: Deathmatch and others
p.p.s.
Can't remember whether I'd already discussed the custom maps we will be playing over the coming months. Most custom maps take longer than default maps, so you're talking between 1 hour to 90 minutes for some, b ut a few may take longer. (You don't have to stay for the whole game if it gets too late.
The following fairly long list were amongst Davids favorites; or in the case of a few, ones he'd intended to play (e.g. Yama). The ones at the bottom of the list are maps David never got a chance to see, but look like he would have thoroughly enjoyed.
I've not listed any of the default maps, some of which he loved to play. are a sample that we would like to explore.
To download each map just click on the name of the map to go to the appropriate L4D Maps page. If you sign up for a free account you can download the maps much quicker.
The following David never got the chance to play, one we meant to, the rest were not released until he passed away, but I reckon he would have loved them:
Anyone who didn't get the chance to play with us are also welcome. We play non competitively in a friendly atmosphere. We did have a Team Speak account, which I think has lapsed. If enough people show interest I may pay a years subscription to a server as its relatively cheap to rent and enhances game play. Alternatively we could use Skype, which is free.
Either post here if you are interested and I'll Pm you back, or PM me (my PM's may be full though)
