Hello all.. umm wanted to pop in and say that I am sorry I have not been around much. Some is due to health problems that have popped up, but mostly the reason is computer related...
Yet, my second laptop in about 2 years has died on me (those of you that helped me remember the Toshiba that died on me and I got the HP to replace it). Thank goodness Squaretrade was still in effect.. unfortunately a laptop that is a year old really loses a good deal of value. It is the touchpad, graphics board, and 'prehaps' part of the motherboard.. so they are sending me the 'current value' of it. So, been trying to get this P4 desktop up and running that I got to tie me over. ANYWHO, sorry I haven't been around and hope to be back on again REALLY soon! Take care!

I sincerely hope this mishap gets fixed for you, ibwebb!
That's life for you, waiting at the corner to trample us, but we get back up every time (well, sometimes it take a little more effort but we get there).
I too am in a pickle at the moment as I was supposed to gather information on and renovate the various Freeware listings found here into a cohesive revamped structure.
Unfortunately, the install from my ( Busy, Busy ) ISP took some time at my new location and I'm still waiting for the movers to bring me my boxes containing the desktop tower and external hard drives where my (almost done) research is.
It's a good thing I at least have my new laptop that I carried over myself!
So good luck on your end and glad to see you back here.

Hey there, ibwebb, good to hear from you, and best of luck with your computer.

Hi ibwebb, good to see you back. sorry you've had so much hassle. It must have been so annoying your laptop dying like that, and only two years old as well. I look forwards to seeing you around more. :)

Thank you all...
Strangely, I had (both of them; the Toshiba and HP) very nice laptops with most of the more up to date stuff needed. Though I hated Vista I found that some of the other stuff was wonderful. Now I am back on this desktop (Dell Optiplex 260something something) with 1g ram and windows xp. Back to basics (I added the RAM and a wireless card) and I honestly think I like it as much (maybe more?) than the laptops. I miss the portability, but I feel like my stress level is lowered with the XP I am use to and not having to 'OK' everything I want to do 3+ times. Anywho, thank you all and hope I can get back into things again!Posted 14 years ago # -
ib....Wow....I just heard from a friend today who said this about their HP laptop,
"the system board is fried. Apparently, my model, HP dv9000 series, is known to do this. The shop gets between 3 and 6 a month. HP knew of the problem, but kept building them anyway. One of the HP techs told someone at the shop about it. What a ripoff! I paid over $600 for it and in less than 3 years later it's toast.
We were considering an HP when we got this Acer, after hearing this I'm really glad we went with Acer.
Hope your health and your pc problems get turned around.

Hi ib, good to see you again! I was just thinking a few days ago that I hadn't seen you around! At least you have SquareTrade.. some warranty is better than none at all!

Welcome back ib.. just pop in whenever your domineering computers allow you to. Speaking of dying .. my hubbys Dell Vostro got a fried motherboard and start button after it was only 1 year and 3 months old. Just past the warranty time. We do NOT always get what we pay for!
By the way, what is Square Trade, never heard of that one? We have a shop here in town that opened recently and their signs all say, "We buy laptops, dead or alive"! I bet there's more dead one's than live ones! I refuse to get a laptop.. I'll stick with the tower. That reminds me.. this one is 3 years old in August.. so I guess this is obsolete now. I might have mentioned this previously, but the exprected life span in this day and age on ANY appliance, computer, TV, etc., is ONLY 3 years!Posted 14 years ago #
