   I stopped using foxit reader a while ago because of these issues,I now use sumatra pdf which Is also free but with no BS...

   don't use the installer, grab the bare foxit & make your own shortcut. I swear, installers do most of the damage...

   I just did a clean install of the newest version not long ago and it doesn't force an install of anything - there is a checkbox that the user can uncheck. It didn't install the toolbar on my system. Sadly, developers of freeware need to get money to continue their work and this is one of the ways they've been forced to do it. As long as there as the user has a choice I won't object too loudly.

   What I find objectionable is the commercial security software, like Norton and Spysweeper, that are supposed to protect the user from adware toolbars and the like doing the same thing. Bottom line: always be observant when installing software these days as just about everything now comes with optional toolbars.

   This how if fit it untick Make Ask.com my default Search, Reset my home page to Foxit Start Page ( All Untick ) Next, I accept the licence Terms and want to install foxit Toobar ( I untick as I don't accept ) Next ( Untick ) Ask.com, & Home page, ( Next ) Install firefox plugin ( I untick ) BUT I get Ask.com pop up say you like to serch the web or a pdf not it not in Firefox but in Foxit Reader & I say no 6 or 7 times so way do I have Ask.com, I say No!! to Hijack & all

   I have Foxit installed, a lot lighter than Adobe!

   It did install the toolbar, even though I unchecked it, just removed it thru add & remove programs, have had no problems, yet!

   I should add I am absolutely positive it didn't install as I checked it at the time and have not seen it since, nor have I seen anything at all concerning Ask.com.

    sukibabe removed it thru add & remove programs, I had a look but it not in the add & Remove you only see it if you opem a pdf Top (L,H,S) Serch doc or web, This is on version 3.2.1

    How to setup work for me try to fit ThreatFire pop up said askBarSetup so I go To Run put in " %temp% " OK look for foxB.tep folder & Delete AskInstallChecker.exe now try rest of setup get windows cannet find AskInstallChecker.exe it in & OK but see it now say hide Tool bar !! untick now Tool bar with no Ask.com

    I tried the install twice, and sure enough -- both times I received the Ask toolbar.
    Me all so Try 3 times see last post how I fix it.

    About Foxit reader:

    It's all in the wording. Though the boxes are unchecked, you've still got to click decline in order to proceed without getting the toolbar. Counterintuitive to say the least -- I'm kind of used to needing to click accept in order to continue the install process.(Source)

    OK,so it's confusing,counterintuitive..tricking people to install the Ask toolbar anyway.. ...,but let's not make too big a deal out of it...in the new Foxit Reader v4 they've added a nice new feature called "Safe mode reader" (trustmanager).
    The PDF link editor is pretty cool too.
    :)

    And some people often confuse the Ask toolbar with the Ask icon.
    The Ask icon (hidden by default) and the 'Internet Search' allow you to search the web using the Ask Search engine,should you for some reason want to do that.
