Just click on the specials tab. Batman Arkam Asylum: Game of the Year Edition is the midweek madness deal and ends later today. you can get it for half price at $19.99 it's a bargain.

Morrowind, the third Elder Scrolls title is available for 75% off. At only $5, it's the bargain of the month as far as I'm concerned. It's the game of the year edition so you get the Bloodmoon and Tribunal expansions as well.

Oblivion is available for 60% off and costs $8.50 for that you get the original game plus the expansion The Shivering Isle which adds a whole new area to the game plus the Knights of the nine booster pack that adds 9 excellent mods to the game.

finally you can get Fallout 3 plus all five booster packs for 50% off That's only $19.99 All four games are excellent and should give many weeks of game play.

I'd loved to have given this post the time it deserves as the graphics for all four games are fantastic. Morrowind is the oldest of the four games, but the graphics are still excellent.

The three Bethesda tiles are amongst my favorite games of all time and I highly recommend to purchase at least one of them. If you prefer famtasy Oblivion or morrowind are must buys if you like post apocalyptic themes then Fallout 3 is for you. :) Fallout 3 has a new expansion for release later this year called Fallout Vegas. You can now preorder it via steam and get some additional content. :)

I have all but Batman and they are great games, some of my favorites. I may even purchase Morrowind and Oblivion again just to have them on Steam. BTW, Steam is showing me that the price of the Fallout 3 package is $24.99 (normally $49.99).

Fallout New Vegas isn't really an expansion. It is a stand alone game set 3 years later in a Vegas rather than Washington with a different character. It uses a modified version of the Bethesda Fallout engine and will be similar, but different. It is being developed for Bethesda by Obsidian and their team includes several members of the original Fallout 1 & 2 developers.

I'd be careful if considering purchasing Batman from Steam. I purchased it long ago when it was on special and have not been able to play it once. There's a rare problem, and the developers know about it but haven't done anything to fix it which really honks me off. However, I purchased the game for cheap on PS3 and love it...great game. If considering the Batman game, you'd be better off getting the physical copy instead as I've learned through MUCH reading, it doesn't have the same problem.

As for Fallout, I may get flamed for this one but I'm going to say it...I was disappointed. I didn't find it very plausible that I had to stand there and shoot and shoot and shoot the guy before he died. The whole roll the dice and hit or miss thing doesn't work for me with shooters...especially when I'm aiming right at it. I think the better way to level up your shooting ability would be to make the gun move alot. The higher up you level, the easier it is to hold the gun still with less recoil too. Perhaps even throw in the fact that your guns last longer because you properly use them. The game was much better with the installed mods, but I shouldn't have to download a mod to make the game better and more playable. I'm over the whole Fallout craze and am ready for an Elder Scrolls V.

Overall I say skip Batman, and get the two Elder Scrolls if you don't have them already. If you're looking for a shooter game with alot of RPG (perhaps too much D&D rules) then go for Fallout. Or if you're lookin for an RPG with some shooting involved, go for Fallout. Looking for a shooter, or straight RPG...look elsewhere.

Following up WR's post here's some links and UK prices:

Batman: Arkham Asylum special is over and done; back to full price (£29.99)

Fallout 3 is £14.99

Oblivion: Deluxe Game of the Year Edition is £6.80
(with most or all of the expansions)

Morrowind: Game of the Year Edition is £3.25

If you're in the mood for a good fantasy RPG on the cheap, Morrowind is a winner. And if you can double your purchase price Oblivion should be good. I haven't played it but was just eying up the Deluxe GOTY Edition last week but decided I couldn't swing the £20 they wanted for it. Talk about good timing!

Fallout reminds me of STALKER, which really irritated me. It was far too buggy to be fun and I regret spending the money on it, not that I paid much.. I think it was just a few pounds but it still felt like money wasted on an unfinished product. It's a shame really because the environments were fascinating. Based on actual photography in and around Chernobyl.

But, I digress.

Was STALKER a shooter with RPG elements or an RPG with shooter elements, and how does it compare with Fallout?

STALKER was more of a shooter with RPG elements, so the whole base of the game is shifted more towards shooting than it is with Fallout which is way more towards RPG. With the mods that you can download and add to the game, I'd say get Fallout...it doesn't suffer from those same bugs as STALKER. But like I said...it makes no sense to me how I can shoot several times and not kill the enemy. D&D dice rolling shouldn't be used for an RPG centered around shooting as its primary weapon.

By the way, if you've got the money you should definitely get Oblivion now. If you're an RPG fan, this is definitely a winner. I don't know that I've ever played a game for as long as I have Oblivion...and I'm still probably only half of the way through.

Yeah, I passed on Fallout last time it was up because it just didn't... feel right? I dunno, it just didn't grab me. I played Knights of the Old Republic recently and it was a bit like that. You'd be standing next to your target and pointing the blaster at him and it would shoot off into space. Same with the light sabre, you'd slash through him and it would say 'miss'! Though, it's an otherwise excellent game...

I have Morrowind, which is great, but I've changed computers since I bought it (5 years ago?) and never got back to it. I will probably get Oblivion as Morrowind is really excellent.

For anyone interested, Morrowind has pretty low system requirements, so it should play on anything better than a Pentium III 500mhz and a 32mb video card. Oblivion/Fallout on the other hand needs at least a 2Ghz Pentium 4 and a 128mb video card.

I just managed to get Half Life: Blue Shift and Diablo II for a pound at a yard/boot sale so that should keep me going for a while. Interestingly enough, I registered Blue Shift on Steam and it activated the full versions of Half Life 1, HL: Opposing Force, Blue Shift, Team Fortress Classic, and I think Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat and Ricochet. Not bad for 50 pence! So if anyone has the boxed version of a game available on steam it'd be worth it to activate it just to see what other goodies you get!

For shooter fans the Half Life series is a definite buy for the money, even the first Half-life is surprisingly excellent for being over a decade old. Well worth it even at full price.

Or on Amazon for £2.25 plus £1.99 shipping. Or Half-life only (which may unlock the expansions on steam) for as little as 1 pence plus £1.99 shipping.

I really, really want oblivion, but the only computer I would play it on is my laptop. Unfortunately, ever since I came back from college, my laptop has been unable to connect to the internet either by cord or wirelessly. Any suggestions?

Strange.. Tried uninstalling the network cards and reinstalling from device manager? Internet Explorer has an auto-diagnostic tool that I sometimes use, you could try that. Just start up IE and it'll say it can't connect and the diagnostics tool should be one of the links listed. Could try a new wireless network card, though I doubt it's that, if neither network card is working. Some routers will let you connect via USB, or you could even try a USB network adapter, if you had one lying around..

Each to their own Wizz :) Personally I grew to like the way you had to build up your skills before you could shoot well. Though even early on in the game if you got a decent weapon such as the sniper rifle or the scoped magnum you could easily make one shot kills. Also some of the home made weapons were pretty effective as well. I think the whole point of the seemingly poor weaponry in Fallout 3 is that they are using weapons from before the bombs were dropped so they are not in the best of condition. (and in my opinion it adds to the realism of the game/story). Also the more you use a weapon the worse it becomes through wear and tear) unless you spend money to have the weapon repaired. Once you level up, if you spend your levelling up points on weapon skills you do find aiming and hitting improve loads, plus if you use the VAT's system you are told what percentage chance you have of hitting specific parts of the body. I was a little disappointed that the game didn't play like many of my other shooters when I fist got the game back in Nov 2008, but I soon got over that, and still think Fallout 3 is one of the best games of the last several years.

I am still enjoying Fallout 3 immensly and have recently been replaying the game after several months of not playing it. The only disappointment I've found with the game is the fifth add-on Mothership Zeta, the rest are absolutely fine.

All that said; if I was on a budget and could only afford one of the three Bethesda games I'd highly recommend going for Oblivion. Not only is there hundreds of hours of playing time via the two main games (Oblivi on the game. If you're adding mods you'll need to download the mod manager which makes it esay to turn on and off the varios mods. some of the mods that add new buildings are not very good because they do not fit into the lnd properly and in some cases can cause you to get stuck. Thankfully, as I've already said, once you discover these, they can be turned off. Filefront and Fileplanet have hundreds of mods available for all three games.

As for the Stalker series, Despite the few bugs I've come across, I also really like all three games. I've still got a lot to explore in each of the games, so I may change my opinion eventualy, but I doubt it.

If you like post apocalyptic games another one I'd recommend that's in a similar vein to STALKER is Metro 2033, that was released a few months ago. Great graphics and excellent game play. :) It'd also on a half price sale at the moment at $24.99. Check it out HERE

To TNIP, I'd still purchase Oblivion via one of your other computers before the deal ends. It's a fantastic price for such a brilliant game. hopefully you'll be able to fix your online connectin eventually. :)

I didn't realize Metro 2033 was on sale via steam until I mentioned it above. I've removed Batman seeing as the midweek deal is now over.

I've actually only played the beginning of Batman so would be interested to know where in the game did it stop working for you Wizz? I was intending to restart playing it when I get home. seeing the game of the year edition on sale reminded me that I'd bought it ages ago (also bought my son a copy as well). It would be a shame if it was a global fault. but I've mot checked the Steam forums for info yet as until you said there was a problem I didn't know. I don't want to take precious time away from Fallout if it's going to freeze on me soon after restarting. :(

Does anyone know whether the game is automaticallyupdated to the game of the year version via Steam, or do those that purchased it before the game of the year edition was released don't get all the extra's???

I purchased Batman through Steam when it was first released. Played through it twice and never encountered any problems. I really got into the game.

TNIP, your laptop should still have copies of the driver files in the Windows system folders and should be able to reinstall them automatically. At worst you'll have to download them from the manufacturers website, so just make a note of the make and model they are before you uninstall them (just in case). Whenever I've done it Windows always just picks up on the hardware and re-installs from the original drivers. Might not be a bad idea to go look for the latest drivers anyway, just to keep them up-to-date. If the uninstall/reinstall doesn't work you can try installing the latest drivers as well.

I agree with WR, though, I'd go ahead and buy Oblivion while it's on sale - It's a great price and includes most if not all of the official add-ons.

Tried it, and it didn't work. I find it odd because I can't connect with the wire OR without. I will get a warning sign, and it can connect and identify, but I am never able to get on. Any ideas?

The problem I have with Batman is a rather rare occurence. It won't launch at all. I make it to the batman launcher and hit play, and it gets an error and closes. I've tried all the work arounds for it, and one of them nearly worked...it booted up to a black screen but froze there. If it worked for your early on Rabbit, it should work fine now.

Thanks Wizz. :) That's rotten luck with your copy. I've got loads of games bought via Steam that have never played; but the problem I get is that message that says "sorry the game isn't available at the moment, blah blah blah". All the workarounds Valve have given me have never worked so I can only assume the computers I have the games on are not set up correcty for those games.

By the way, do you think you'll get the next Fallout installemnt? or have you really had enough?

Wizz, Give this a try if you haven't already. In Steam settings, in-game tab, undo Enable Steam Community In-game. See if that works. I would hate for you to miss out on this game.

It's a no go pookie, the problem lies in the digital version of the game. Other digital distribution sites such as D2D have been affected too. I wish it were the same problem as the "game isn't available at the moment," at least then I can blame Valve. Don't fear though Pookie, I gave up on it long ago and bought the PS3 version of the game and am well through most of it. =)

I'll probably skip the next Fallout as well. I didn't like the first two and had read Fallout 3 was different from the others so thought I'd give it a shot especially since it was a Bethesda game. Just too much RPG in my shooter and not enough shooter in my RPG lol. At least if they went Fable 2's route and had 3rd person where I didn't outright aim with a reticule, I would feel that it wasn't far off to think that I'd miss. Like I said, 1 or 2 shots in the chest is liable to kill most anyone...it shouldn't take 5 or 6.

TNIP, it's connecting to the router but you can't get online? Check your firewall settings and make sure the internet isn't blocked? Try logging on as 'administrator' and see if it's still blocked, or a 'live' Linux cd.

Everything is having this problem, wired, wireless, and no matter where I go. I haven't tried a live Linux cd...I'll try that next, thanks.
