Mm....I was wondering if I'd similar problems with the "S Mpeg 4" codecs in InsideCAT.

my GO7007 based video capture box outputs OpenDivX4/mp3, so for me it's a non-trivial problem.

I wasn't familiar with the term "OpenDivX" to be honest. But out of curiosity, I've just dragged the videos which InsideCAT had recognised as being DivX 4 into the GSpot Codec Information utility. It's getting a bit late here now but before I take my leave, I can confirm that GSpot does indeed name the codec used in each of these files as being "DivX 4 (OpenDivX)".
I can only repeat my own experience, that the hybrid version which I'm using didn't encounter any problems whatsoever when cataloguing a DVD which contains 18 such DivX 4 videos (6 are without sound, 10 with MPEG-1 Audio layer 3, and one each of MPEG-2 Audio layer 3 and MPEG-2.5 Audio layer 3).

just out of curiosity, what CPU and OS are you running?
It may be the lack of SSE2 support biting me in the behind. Again. I have a 32 bit Athlon XP running XP Pro SP3. I'm trying to get a 64 bit cpu (athlon II X2) so I can run a *bunch* of programs that currently give me the finger.
OTOH, he told me to look at the Sourceforge Mediainfo site to see if I could spot the cause.

I don't think that's the cause, as I'm in a similar position. My own pc, which was 'state of the art' when I built it about 10 yrs ago now (using the MSI KT3 Ultra series mobo) now has one foot firmly rooted in the grave :(
AFAIK my (socket A) Athlon XP 1900+ CPU doesn't support the SSE2 instruction set either.
(I'm also using XP pro SP3)Posted 14 years ago # -
you are right, it doesn't.
Mine's a 2800+ with 512 megs of ram built circa 2006, of parts that were pretty close to the blunt back of the blade- far from the bleeding edge.
nForce2 chipset (I suckered DFI into sending me a slightly used Lanparty NFII Ultra (a) mobo for free.) with the SoundStorm enhnced southbridge.

You seem to have a very good rapport with the developer. If problems persist, might it be possible to send him one of the videos which gives problems, to see if the issue can be duplicated?

he's asked me to do so with catalog files that refused to be be recataloged. Really good guy, just email him. I suppose it helps I'm a former programmer and test more than once to make sure I really have a buglet before I pester him.
His english ain't great, he's spanish- but who cares?
I told him I thought you were checking out the lite version to see if the registration was worth it.
And what's this about the grave? on an athlon XP 1900+??
I've got a K6-2/450 on the lan for big downloads and stuff. not real responsive, but dead reliable. I beefed up the heat sinks on the power supply and took the fan out, left the top cover off the ps and the side cover off the case.
I've got a 1999 gateway solo 2550 pII-350 laptop with the max 192 megs of RAM and a 10 gig internal drive (40 external on usb, and USB 1.1 is where the ethernet dongle lives to give it LAN access.) with no battery screwed to the side of my bed to read books on, check mail and this site, and do most of my digital photo crops there since that's where the card reader is.
If you want me to act as a cutout, just host the thing someplace like sendspace (300 meg limit) or someplace else and pm me the link (or pm me a throwaway email so I can send you one of my burn links to send it to) and I'll check it and pass it on.
I may spot the problem with the variety of diagnostic tools I use on stubborn bits on my own self. I have gobs of free time (sorta) being disabled.
I've got so much of so many types of stuff in my catalogs he isn't surprised at *anything* I toss his way. Really.

No problems with the CPU - still meets all my needs. It's my system in general where age is harbinger of death. For example, I like to keep all drivers up to date, but NVIDIA's lack of support for aging AGP cards forcibly compels me to remain with dated drivers. It gets worse - I had a nightmare experience a few months back when I did in fact attempt to update my GeForce 7600GS drivers (to forceware version 190.38). Long story short, my expensive (but out of guarantee) Samsung monitor has remained permanently in sleep mode ever since the driver update, and (in spite of what multi-nationals might want to argue about it being impo$$ible for drivers to trash hardware) similar experience was shared by a lot of others - immediately after updating to 190.38. I remain convinced that my monitor's EDID got corrupted (directly or indirectly) as a consequence of installing the driver software. I'm currently using a crappy CRT which I was fortunate enough to find in a local charity shop for £5 :(
I'm actually very busy myself this week, so I'll probably not be around much after this. But let me know what ensues if you can't diagnose the problem yourself, and do end up sending a video to the developer.

did you try reverting the drivers to vga and then installing earlier ones at low scan rates to wake the monitor up? About the only way to nuke a monitor is to have it's over-scan-speed cutout circuits flake and then get hammered with a real high horizontal scan- that pushes the HV and other power circuits out of spec. is the led flashing? if not, it may be just a fuse. the EDID is pretty solidly read-only. (yeah, one of my many professions, been there, done that, used the T-shirt to mop up spills)
That £ at least places you in the UK, or I'd see about shipping you one of the many 15" monitors i have around here gathering dust. I even have one attached to the laptop for better color registration on photos.
I'd have a spare 17" but I gave away one of the 2 I got at a church sale for $3.50 each so a guy who had a old 14" and bad eyes could use the free system he got donated, then a cat gacked in the other- a Dell EV700- and I haven't bothered to pull the case and see if cleaning the board would bring it back. Probably, but I have other things on my plate.
Funny, I'm running a GeForce 7800 128 mb AGP 8x card myself. with an old Dell 991 attached. On the shelf above is my newest monitor, a phillips 107/e66 17" that I pulled *off* the laptop when the gack hit the board. And it's on the K6/2-450.
I thought you had a video that gave *you* problems. Personally I've just dropped back to 4.10 and it works as well as ever. I'll check the sourceforge site once in a while, but unless there's something really new and important comes up in the dll, there I shall stand.
I've the tech's viewpoint on drivers/software/firmware/hardware- if they ain't broke, *don't fix 'em*.
I didn't mess with the firmware in my 3com router for about 4 years before I saw the HP-eats-3com news and grabbed all the info and software for it, and finally upgraded past the beta-build-for-me firmware I had in there.

well, victor is working on the oddities in 4.11 (and the fixed image thumbnail browser) and I'm trying the second 4.12 beta now. Getting there- stay tuned.
MediaInfo.dll has been isolated as the problem with the oddball video files (XMedia recode skates the edge of standards when fixing a messed up aspect ratio and cropping at the same time- I have some *very* strange formats floating around) so at least it isn't a core problem he can get at- and the solution to the one-directory thumbnail display appears to be working out nicely.
oh, BTW, one thing I've had to do with Nvidia vidcards is add an extra 75 ohms to ground during startup on each of the 3 color lines. sometimes it takes that for the card to detect the monitor and feed the bloody thing- if it doesn't 'see' a monitor on an output connector, forget about it pushing video blind. I used a small 4pdt relay, 3 resistors and a switch in the middle of a HD-15 extension cable. since it only got used a few seconds each boot, a 9v battery worked great for a loooong time.
