   Reference Steam bargains and "Orange Box"

   When one of the game gurus mentions a deal on Steam or another gaming site that I think I might be interested in, the first thing that I check is the list of game requirements. Most of the time the game requires some hardware item (s) that I do not have. My video adapter card is what most often causes me to fall short. In those instances where my hardware passes the minimum requirements, I next look at the description of the game itself. The written description of the game might contain a term that I do not understand (in this case HDR), or just as often the description might not answer a question or two that I have. In the case of "Orange Box" I have questions that are not answered. Fortunately I usually understand the pictures (I confess, occasionally even one of those gives me a problem).

   I have seen on Steam and other game websites a statement that says that game is protected against "cheats". I imagine that statement refers to multiplayer games that are being played on the website. When I play a game that involves any kind of movement, if I do not cheat, I never get past the first frame. So far,I have not seen anything that says that cheating is or is not allowed when playing a game (as a single player) that comes with Orange Box.

   I am sure that many of you have played the games found in Orange Box. Is cheating allowed, and if so, can cheats be found on the web?

   Hi Bigun, yet the cheats system is for online paly. If you're only playing singleplayer you can install any cheat programs that may be available.

   Here are a few cheats:

   For Half-Life 2, Episode One and Episode Two:

   All commands are done through the Console. Must be enabled through the -Console option on an shortcut to the game executable or enabled in the in game options under the Advanced section of Controls. It is then accessed by pressing the tilde key (next to numeric one on NTC keyboards, on the right side somewhere on the freak -- PAL --keyboards).

   Most of these require sv_cheats to be set to 1.

   upgrade_portalgun - Allows use of second portal placement. Must have obtained blue portal portion of the gun.

   fire_energy_ball - Fires an energy ball that can be used in solving puzzles. Recommend that you bind this to a key for easy use. Example would be, bind q fire_energy_ball

   ent_create_portal_weight_box - Creates a Weighted Storage Cube for your use in getting a little bit higher, holding down a button, or taking out a sentry.

   change_portalgun_linkage_id # - Replace # with an integer from 0 to 3. Allows for creation of seperate sets of portals.

   sv_portal_placement_never_bump 1 - No listed effect.

   sv_portal_placement_never_fail 1 - Portals can be placed on almost any surface. They still cannot go through the dispersal fields and some curved surfaces/models.

   Half Life 2, Episode 1, 2 and Portal Console Commands

   Activate developers code by going to the keyboard options and clicking advance. Then when in game press the [~] button.

   sv_cheats 1: Activates cheats

   notarget: Enemies don't target you

   noclip: fly

   God: God mode

   Map codes for spawning to specific areas

   Enter these with the 'map' code in the console. Press ~ to activate the console.

   d1_under_04: Spawn the lab chapter near the end.

   d1_trainstation_03: Spawns in the train station after the second load point.

   d1_trainstation_05: Spawns in the train station after the third load point.

   Cheats are usually inputed/activated via the console which for most games is accessed using the ~ key; though they can also be installed via patches that changes the games coding. just in case they go wrong. you can then revert back to the original if necessary.

   Hi Inas, it's really very simple. Capture your screenshot, or download from GOOGL images then adjust the size of the image to 400x300 (or at least 400 for the width); using an image editor like zoner Photo Studios (given away several times), when you input thest size it will automatically adjust the second height number to the correct size, which can be different sometimes, for example the images I posted for Alien v Predator 2010 were 400 x 225 pixels wheras the images for aliens v Predator 2000 were 400 x 300 (which is the standard ratio of width to height.

   Once you've edited the image you then need to upload it to a suitable online image storage facility. i used to use Photoshops, but they have limited bandwith so my images would sometimes disapper for a month depending upon the number of times they were looked at by the community. so i now use the free and unlimited bandwidth of http://www.picdepict.com

   The set up isn't as good as photoshops yet, but I believe the guy who created the site (whose also a giveawayoftheday community member) will upgrade the site as it becomes more popular.

   Uploading is simple. From the picdepict home page you can upload up to 15 images at a time as well as categorise them. Once they are uploaded (only takes a few moments and is much quicker than photoshops) each image will have several codes for posting to different forums. the one to use for these forums is at the top of the list and is the simplest looking one.

   to get an image to show in these forums you can either use the tool bar that's situated along the top of the reply box or type in the code yourself. I found using the tool bar useles for images because everytimeI used it when we were first able to post images several months ago the image would for some unknown reason go to the top of the post, so i just tye in the code which is placed at the beginning and end of the link you've got from the image upload site.

   I always center my images as it makes the post look tidier. here's the code;

   [ center][ img] link to image for example http://www.picdepict.com/images/16654501937085090768.jpg [/ img][/ center]

   Omit the spaces. I had to include them otherwise the code would have disappeared. lol
