   I’m not sure who it was but I recalled someone recently asking why the past games GOTD use to offer, can’t be as they say, “recycled”. But what I don’t recall is the answer. As an example games such as the match three puzzle variants, Scarab Shooter, Mahjong variants, Breakout variants, etc., etc,.

   The GOTD visitor population has grown since those games were offered so I would assume these newer people just might be as interested and provide the kind of valuable feedback about a game back to that developer; the same as much of us more “senior” members did back then. Only theirs would be a fresher outlook. ;)

   I would assume it’s in those developers best interest to continue working with GOTD for that reason.

   Hi aRenegade, Most of the early games given away can't be recycled once you reinstall Windows (assuming you've not created a full image of the drive including the registry); however those knowleagable about the wherefores and whys of windows could easily find a way to circumvent that. Most of the games offered since the project went to weekends only have been 'recyclable' because no reg info has been written to the registry, but in the configurtion files within the game itself.

   I think you're talking about two different things. It seems Renegade is suggesting that developers offer some of the same games AGAIN because there are new members who might not have been around when the game was offered initially. I think that is a great idea. Of course some of the older members will be complaining about the repeats but you can't please everybody.

   @ aRenagade, I think some of the publishers were using the forum to try out new games

   to get feedback,but others,(most IMO) were using time-honored sales strategy of "loss

   leader".The latter making an attempt to gain new customers with these promotional

   items.

   @ Terri, there are alwys sour apples everywhere, but if you check the "Giveaway

   Suggestions" you will find many requests for reruns, mostly from people who,like me,

   have had drive crashes or changed computers,etc.. We are always grateful for the

   chance to have them back.

   Not sure, but I think many of the publishers have conditions in their negotiations

   with GOTD that preclude reruns, or something like that. Happy Sunday all :>

   Glad you mentioned "loss leaders", Xinnia. That's probably as a concise an explanation of the GOTD model - as it relates to the developers - as you can get.

   As to Terri's point, I think some who complain about repeats may be a little unrealistic. At the end of the day, when all the negotiations are done, GOTD's not going to turn down a repeat if they're not swamped with other alternatives. And I wouldn't, either. Even on the main page, if GOTD has or is trying to cultivate a relationship with a developer, what are they going to say, "NO, WE ABSOLUTELY REFUSE TO RUN THAT REPEAT!" ? I doubt they have that luxury. I certainly believe in giving the developers feedback, but - in the short run - if people don't want a repeat then the developer will get immediate feedback simply by how few downloads there are. As far as I can see, that's the number one short term feedback. It's more telling to the developer than any thumb system, star system, or comment.
