Problem with a Game Giveaway

On Dec. 9th I had some problems downloading the GGOTD "The Mysterious Past of Gregory Phoenix". It essentially disappeared into my system and I couldn't find it to activate. I posted about it at time, but got no reply and forgot about it myself.

Today while I was running a Windows Defender scan, I happened to glance down and saw a Gregory Phoenix file in "SystemWOW"...It flashed by quickly so I didn't catch the whole file name. Can someone please help me to delete or move this game file? I'm no expert but it seems bad-wrong for it to be there.

Did you try running a search on your computer to locate the file?

I don't know the full file name. I searched using "Gregory Phoenix" (including hidden files) and nothing came up. :/

When looking for remnants of the game ,I'd suggest using 'Everything" to look for them.
(even if you don't know the full name)

The SystemWOW file could just be a perfcache of the main executable. It won't let you do anything, though. Try digging through your hard drive, looking at the most obvious places such as the Program Files (both regular and x86, if you're using a x64 OS), and any other custom folders where you might have installed programs to.

(I am on a 64 bit)

Robert: I downloaded a copy of Everything and the files came up right away on a search. What handy little tool. I'll surely be keeping it.

C:\Windows\SystemWOW64
C:\Windows\SystemWOW64\Gregory_Phoenix
C:\Windows\SystemWOW64\Gregory_Phoenix\gregory_phoenix

The first two have no size listed; but the last is the .exe and is 2092 KB.

It's also showing up twice on:
C:\ProgramData\avg\IDS\profile (I've AVG 9.0 Security)

Can I delete it from here safely? Or even run it (if it was ever properly activated that is)? Just curious about the second question.

Don't delete the first one!
I'm not on a 64bit OS, but I do know SystemWoW64 is a system folder and it's used by other programs too.

Choose explore in Everything and navigate to C:\Windows\SystemWOW64\Gregory_Phoenix before deleting anything.
If this is all 'Everything' did find ,the game isn't on your drive anymore(or never was).

I didn't delete anything. Too paranoid, lol.

When I hit explore on the SystemWOW I found it only contains a Gregory Phoenix file. I opened it and it's the game files. When I explored the other two files they were the same, only they were already opened to the GP game files (containing the typical contents).

I think I DL'ed this game twice while trying to activate it. SystemWOW does sound like something important, so I wouldn't delete it even if it's empty; but what about the game file in it and the other two copies?

Just had a look at your capture and I 'd say go ahead and delete the gregoryPhoenix.exe file(2092 kb)in C:\Windows\SystemWOW64\Gregory_Phoenix
The two other similar files won't show up anymore,when you do a new everything search after that.(except maybe once in your recycle bin)

'K, I deleted the .exe file and the other two are still there after a restart.

You were right, there are indeed a lot of other program files in systemWOW... but the one shown, I think that's actually C:\Windows\SystemWOW64\Gregory_Phoenix
Either way, one of them is going down, lol.

I wish they would offer that game again. I couldn't play it on my old computer but think it will play on the new one.

It's odd how Gregory Phoenix would install to such a folder. Why? Misconfigured extraction path? (Psst: if you haven't deleted its profile folder under your user folder, and you've activated it fine, you should be able to still play the full version.)

It is really strange that it found it's way there! I only remember the installation process for this one was strange so I just gave up on it. I did think I might be able to play it from there; but I wanted to get it out more. It looked like a good HOG, maybe they'll offer it again if they start GGOTD.
