A certain site which sounds like Large Ocean Creatures Games has announced a new policy that you are not allowed to even mention any other site on their forums so I think it is only fair that no one on this forum ever mentions them again. I know I have recommended some of their games here and I will no longer do that.

That's unfortunate. But other than that, what could I say?

Terri, while I understand your feelings, though they now have that policy (http://forums.bigfishgames.com/faqs/list.page) on their community/forums, they have done a whole lot of good over the years, that I feel far outweighs the bad of that one issue. I have a lot of games from them that were either free or darned near it - $.99. It is partly because of this board's members telling about them that I even found out about the game offerings. I believe they've given away a few of their games here through the GGOTD, also. With all that in mind, I really don't have a problem with their name being mentioned here.

I think anything that benefits our members is still a good thing to mention (like free games or 99 cent games) but I won't recommend full price games anymore. I just think it's tacky that they are so afraid of competition, they won't even allow you to mention anyone else.
I originally found this forum through a post on their forums but now that would be against their rules.

I thought it was always a 'no-no' to mention direct competitors. Sometimes people use initials instead of the full names. Have they been clamping down on that too recently?
I don't see GOTD as a 'game company' or competitor, so I don't think it would fall into those guidelines or it would at least be debatable. There was a thread no so very long ago about GOTD, IIRC.
[One rule I'm glad they're enforcing the no religious discussions. Ones that began with things like: "OMGZ this game is darksided!! It has a magic potion!!!", etc., etc.]

Yes they say you can no longer use initials or hints. Basically it sounds like they want to pretend they are the only game site on the web.

From a business standpoint I think it makes sense because it's their company forum and they don't want to openly give free advertisements for their competitors.
On the other hand they should tread a little lightly as the forum is also a social outlet and they shouldn't enforce like an authoritarian on paying customers. The new mods did seem to rub people the wrong way from the get go, maybe this has been something of tactical mistake on the Large Hydrosphere's part. The older mods were trusted and would have handled it better.

I found out yesterday myself in a post I mentioned Gamehouse at Bigfishgames and I was told the post was edited because their new TOS and I wasn't in any trouble or nothing, but I guess they didn't permit it anymore.
I don't even care. It don't bother me. I have both Gamehouse and Bigfishgames and it doesn't bother me because the rules have changed but I only have Gamehouse and Bigfishgames to get games, good ones. I liked games on Bigfishgames that I waited a long time for Gamehouse to get and they never did. So I got them from Bigfish.

Bigfish has given away a lot of games and given bargains on others, so if they want to limit conversation about competitors I have no objection. I'll also mention Bigfishgames here whenever I find a bargain or another freebie. Though I notice there has been a lack of total freebies lately, probably due to the economy. Just as there has been a dearth of free games here at GOTD recently due to the economy.
