Program that I mentioned in a post through the week that was of interest both to Terri and Bigun,possibly others,'Multiplicity',is available on offer at half price this weekend at Impulse for $14.97(us) and £9.85(gb) see link below,

Now controlling 2 pc's using only one mouse and keyboard is easy(no switching between machines),I found it useful by not having to move my files etc.from old pc to my new one it's like the next step up from using 2 monitors.Hope someone finds this info useful.

Wow, this definitely sounds interesting to me. Though how do I connect the same mouse to both computers? (I expect its all down to the network???

Still, I'm gonna get this just as soon as I've checked my PayPal Balance. :)

Save your money. There is a free one called "synergy". It is old but works well. I have it at work with a windows 7 to the left of my windows XP and MAC to the right. All computers can be controled by my keyboard and mouse from my XP machine. Works well. Windows 7 does have a few problems. If you install software and the security pops up it stops all software and "synergy" stops working until repond to the request.

Connection for mouse and keyboard is through the 'primary machine',to connect any more than 2 pc's upgrade to Pro version needed(I picked that up for 1/2 price 2 weeks ago),Pro also allows copying and pasting files between pc's,whereas standard only allows limited copying i.e web adresses etc.across a universal clipboard.

I bought the version you mentioned above. Was impressed with being able to control 2 PC's. Pity I didn't know about the Pro version as that would have been even better. Too late to go for the Pro version now. :(

Yeah, but this was $15 (30/2 or perhaps 9.95 British, vs. $50 US for pro).

Sorry I didn't mention the Pro version in my first post,it wasn't included in the offer this week but an upgrade not too pricey at $24.95(us),£16.74(gb),and it might be included next time Pro is offered,I can't remember if it was or not the last time.

Hi Terri, glad to see you back. Sorry I didn't send any support PM's; I wasn't all there last week. :(

I've not installed the program yet, but I doubt you can with the version I bought because copying on one computer places the data into the clipboard and from what I've read about the software, it only allows you access to what's on the screen, but not to copy.

Deserthead does say that copying and pasting between computers is available with the pro version though.

Darned if I wish I'd have checked as the Pro version is definitely a lot more useful. Still, I only paid half price so can't complain. Maybe I'll contact the developer and ask if I can get a discount for the Pro version. sometimes they can be very accomodating. :)

Hey, I know that I am not to computer savvy on all this, but I noticed that CanuckEh mentioned a free version and no one said anything about it Synergy (http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/) Any of you try or look at it? Sounds a lot like it does what the version WR bought. Just thought I would ask since Free beats paid to me everytime. LOL

Do the computers have to be on the same surface? Mine are on two different computer stands so there is a space between them.

As long as the computers are connected through a network,it shouldn't matter where they are sitting.
As for Synergy I'd looked at that and another couple of programs a while back for using with multiple monitors and decided Multiplicity was the way for me to go.It does what I need.

The downside of not having this is when you have two computers and you're typing away like crazy and nothing is showing on the monitor and you're getting frustrated and cursing the stupid computer, you have to see that you're typing on the wrong keyboard.

Brought this thread to the front again after a month,due to the fact that 'Multiplicity' is back on offer at Impulse,this time though it's the 'professional' version up for grabs at £13.81(uk),$19.98(us).The main difference between the 2 versions is with 'pro' you have the ability to control up to 6 computers from the one keyboard and mouse and also transfer files between pc's(drag and drop).
This seems to be their spring sale,so a few more deals are also available,personally I'm going to grab 'Object Desktop' at half price(£17.27)($24.98).

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. will have to see if it's cheaper than getting an upgrade. :)

edit ....10 minutes later.........

The extra's that the Pro edition offers persuaded me to go purchase it. I just wish I could pass on ny standard edition as it's now useless. (I'd not even got around to installing it) unfortunately the software downloads and registration goes through the impulse manager and i don't think I can just pass on the reg code as it would be recognised as a app from my account. I'll have to contact them to see if it's possible. Though I never received a reply from them when I queried about upgrading to the Pro edition so I don't hold out much hope of them bothering to reply to my query.
