Thanks to GMMan! I've downloaded CM2+ and have my fingers crossed that this PC will run it (despite the d/l site claiming my graphics card isn't up to it...).

I said I'd contribute some games towards this giveaway. Sorry it's taken me so long to get my act together. I don't have as many Indie games to giveaway as GMMan, but I will be giving away several other non indie games that I bought from Alawar. I've played all the games out several times now and would really like to give my licences away to someone else who is going to appreciate them. I have the following games to give away which I'll add every few days until they are gone. The Path and World of Goo are my Indie game contributions plus I'll be giving away several of my arkanoid games that I bought from Alawar. these include Hyperballoid and Hyperballoid 2, Actionball 2, Clash, Strikeball 2 Strikeball 3, plus some other genres that include time management and match three (Amelias Cafe and Finding Doggy) there will be a few more but I'm still searching for the registration codes. :)
Anyway, my first giveaway is called The Path. please PM me with your answers to the following question.
What was the inspiration for the game The Path? The first PM with the correct answer will be given the prize. Please include the time (plus time zone) as well as the date with your answer. Entries close Friday at midnight (GMT) Thanks to all
Good luck

Ooh! "World of Goo," eh?
[FX: Sets frequent alarms to view this thread …]

As no one seems to have responded to this indie giveaway as yet, I'm extending the deadline to Saturday midnight GMT. Partly because the thread lay dormant for nearly a week; hopefully that will give everyone a chance to see that it's active again)

Tried to PM you WR, but getting message that either your inbox or my outbox is full?

There is a winner for the above game. I'll post the name later
Rather than post only one game at a time all of the following games are included in the next giveaway. The time for entries should start from 9pm GMT tonight. Entries posted before that time will be discounted. This will then give everyone a fair chance to post around that time.
Little Gods an unusual pong like arkanoid , World of Goo, a great puzzle game using lumps of gloop; (and one of the best releases of 2008 as far as arcade games go). Obulis a rather hard but gorgeously rendered puzzle game, another couple of arkanoids called Sprinkling Can and Z Ball Gold. Z- Ball is quite old now, but still looks as fresh now as it was when I first bought it. There’s an expansion pack included with that game. The final game for this selection is a brilliant indie game called AaaAAaaa: A Reckless Disregard for Gravity where you base jump off stylized buildings and score points by almost smashing yourself against the sides of the buildings. (plus some other tasks such as waving to friends and giving the finger to enemies and smashing through scoring plates).
Post your answer to the following questions and list in order of preference the games you wish to win. Only one prize per person unless only a few apply. Then its down to my discretion and answering the third question.
There are three questions in total which are not related to the games. To win you must have the first two questions correct and to win more than one game in case there isn't enough takers the third one must be answered.
1)…. Who was Marc Bolan’s (T.Rex) first singing partner and what was Bolans first record called
2) ….What were the names of Marc Bolan’s first four Albums
A third question to qualify for more than one game in case of there only being a few entries:
3)…. What stage name did he nearly call himself. The clue is in the title of one of his many albums.
More games to follow after this one is complete. Closing date, Monday 11th April Midnight GMT. No entries will be accepted after this time unless you have a valid reason.

Should I PM the answer or post on this thread?
Posted 14 years ago # -
PM me the answer. But no entries will be accepted until 9pm tonight (GMT). That's just over 2 hours away.
Posted 14 years ago # -
Just to reiterate the rules. You need to wait till 9pm GMT to post your answers, answer the firstt wo questions correctly to stand a chance of winning at least one game and if only a few enter you can win a second game by answering the third question. With respect to the second question, please only list four albums.
If you only list two games in your preferences they will be the only games considered, so please list all the games in the order you think you would want them. I wouldn't want to disappoint someone who has the right answers bgut say only selects 2 games and two others post the correct answers first and get the games you want. Thank you.
My choice would be:
1)...AaaAAaaa: A Reckless Disregard for Gravity
2)...World of Goo
3)...Z Ball Gold
4)...Obulis
5)...Sprinkling Can (one of my least played arkanoids)Posted 14 years ago # -
The latest round is now active.
I will be posting some of my Alawar games on Monday Evening. All the games are excellent arcade games IMO, but I no longer play them as I played them all out apart from amelias Cafe which I never really liked. I got that one for Beta testing it. The games i'll be including in the giveaway on Monday include:
• Hyperballoid: The complete Pack (2D Arkanoid) I spent over $140 on this game because there were around 14 expansion packs released over a period of about 3 years. Now they are all packaged together into one file. It's still a great arkanoid, but the ball is too slow for me and I never (or rarely lose a ball) even when it's set on its hardest difficulty and the speed up power up selected.
• Hyperballoid 2 - (2D Arkanoid). This was a big improvement on the original Hyperballoid, with four themed level sets that you can add to by creating your own levels using the included levels editor. I do think the original games level designs were better, but this one has improved ball speeds as well as a great set of power ups that are upgreadable (I think) Mnot played it in over a year now.
• Action Ball Deluxe (3D Arkanoid) This was one of the first 3D arkanoids I bought that I was impressed with. Nearly as good as it's big brother Actionball 2. I think the alawar download now includes all the expansion packs that were originally sold seperately. If they aren't i'll upload the expansion pack for you (when I find it)
• Actionball 2 (3D Arkanoid) IMO this is one of the best 3D arkanoids apart from Incrediball and maybe Magicball 3 and 4; the reason being the ball speeds are quite fast compared to other 3D arkanoids, but you can also upgrade your power ups)
• Finding Doggy (Match Three) This is similar to the 4 elements type of atch 3 where you have to clear a specific path to win the level.
• Amelias Café (Time Management)Bog standard time management game where you have to server customers within a specified time, with upgrades to help you on your way.
Later in the week there will be more alawar games that include Strike Ball 2 amnd Strikeball 3 as well as the Magic Ball set (Well Magic Ball 2, 3 and 4) as well as a couple of Hidden Object Games.
Later next weekend There will be more games to giveaway (I'm still sorting through my external back up drives for games i no longer play or wish to keep) Th reason I'm giving these games away is because I was buying sometimes 3 or 4 arcade games a day, whatever took my fancy really as I found they were very good pain killers. Most of the 1000 plus arcade games I've bought over the past five years have hardly been played. some because I found I didn't like them, others because i played them too much over a period of time and others because I've lost one of my Email addresses (one of those you had to use at least onece a moth) that had the activation codes, and I hadn't got around to copying them to a document.

What's GMT? What time is it now where you are? I see you posted it 4 hours ago and said it was in 2 hours so we must be past it by now.
Posted 14 years ago # -
Indeed it is nowhere near 9pm here I am greatly puzzled o.O

Here you can read every thing about time zones and can convert your time to UTC/GMT:

This is a nice one too :)

You know that you can set up the clock in your taskbar for up till 3 different time zones? Just click on it and you'll see the further steps. (my system is speaking German, and I have problems, to translate the path)graylox

GMT is Greenwich Mean Time which is five hours ahead of the American Eastern time and 7 hours ahead of Mountain Time

if you want to find out quickly what time it is GMT then click on your clock and select time zones then click on the one that says (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London

So 9 PM GMT is 4 PM EDT? What about Daylight Savings Time, do you have that? Oh my head hurts LOL.
Posted 14 years ago # -
This really is not fair you know. Foul, foul, this is some British trick. This test is designed so that one has to have already played the game to come up with the answers to your questions. So you see this really does not make much sense does it? Someone would have to play this game many times to be able to remember the details and answer your questions. To play a game that many times, I imagine that they would already own the game. So what use are these game to them? If you let me play the games that you have designed your tests around I will be on equal ground with the others.
Must I sit on the sidelines and watch others have all the fun?

Hi, Bigun, I admit even though Google is my friend, I have to do some reading before I'll hopefully find the answers - LOL
But WR's questions in this round have nothing to do with games. It's all about music - so all of us should have a chance - thanks to Google, Wikipedia & co-partners :)Posted 14 years ago # -
It looks like hijacking is at work again. In the time that it took me me to laboriously type out my post on games this subject just jumped the tracks at least two times.

yeah - life can be sooo cruel...

Thanks, graylox and White Rabbit! I did not know you could add 2nd and 3rd clocks to your task bar time display. It's amazing the things your computer can do that you just never know about or notice until someone mentions them. I know the difference between my time zone and GMT, but daylight savings time always gives me pause. I have to stop and think when GMT is 7 hours ahead and when it's 8. Given that we in the US (mostly) move our clocks ahead for DST and back for standard time, it's not really all that hard to figure that for standard time, GMT is seven hours ahead of me and for DST it's eight, but for some reason I can't retain that fact in memory and always have to stop and figure it out. This way is much easier!
For Vista, anyway, you need to click on the clock, then click on Change Date and Time Settings, or alternately, right-click on the clock and choose Adjust Date/Time. This will bring up the clock's properties box which, sure enough, shows a tab labeled "Additional Clocks". There you can set up one or two additional clock showing different time zones.
Posted 14 years ago # -
Keep DST in mind! This time of year, US Eastern Daylight Time is GMT - 4!
Posted 14 years ago # -
only 2 hours to go before the deadline.
Look at the time I posted to get an idea if you're confused about GMT.
I'll post the winners tomorrow morning.

Hi Bigun, I purposly chose my questions for the very same reason you mentioned. :) I just chose something I knew a lot abot because i was obsessed with Marc bolan as a youth. I was only a few miles away from where he had his accident as I was staying in a london hotel at the time after returning to the UK for a holiday when I lived in Germany. I was 'almost' devastated when I heard on the news about his death on returning home to Krefeld. He was just making a come back after being in the doldrums for several years. Though I much preferred his pre electric folk music to his later pop style music.

No more entirs for the weekends giveaways will be accepted. I'll post the results and contact each individual with appropriate registration codes and download links sometime tomorrow. I have a very important meeting with my legal team regarding my settlement, so it probably wont be until the afternoon or evening.
W.R.
p.s.
I'll post details of the next lot of giveaways tomorrow as well.
Posted 14 years ago # -
Thanks W.R. Good luck with the meeting, hope it goes well.

The meeting went on all day and I'm exhausted from it so will sort out the competition winners tomorrow . I'm too tired to bother right now.
1).....
The correct answers were Steve Perigrine Took and his first recored was called The Wizard (someone did give me a different title that was actually recrdeed before The wizard, but it wasn't released until after his death when the tapes cropped up. (I will be accepting this as a correct answer, but only after others have received their prizes)
2)......
The first four albums were called were:
My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair…But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows
Prophets, Seers, and Sages/The Angels Of The Ages
Unicorn
A Beard Of Stars
Bolan was part of a band called Johns Children that released a series of albums, but these were not regarded Bolan material as he only contributed (apart from Desdamona) to and did not create the albums.
3)...
Zinc Alloy
He did change his name to Toby Tyler for a short time but the question did ask what Stage name did he 'nearly' call himself.
