I can't use the Zoner gif animator. When I try to open it I get an exception error.
It reads "The exception unknown software exception (0x0eedfade)occurred in the application 0x7c812A5AB
Any ideas on what this means or why it would happen? I've installed twice and still get the same. Thank you.
Would love to be able to use this software.

Premium booster 2.2 as a worm W32-agobot LQ and adware/spylocked. So i was suspicious so i tried the program in norton 360 and it detected it as a W32-agobot LQ worm and backdoor trojan. On http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/premium-booster-2-2/ they're are several comments that list this software as malicious. comments #8,#9,#15,#19,#20,#21,#28,#40.

a-squared [free version, updated frequently, including prior to each full system scan) found 2 files with Trojan.Win32.StartPage.apm --- both files were from the GOTD program DropBox Image Processor ---
Strange behavior of program: I had noticed that since installation this program frequently popped up a window of some sort as I worked, which did seem unusual (What's this doing there? Where did it come from?). Because I was preoccupied with what I was working on, I did not stop to figure out why these intrusions kept occurring.
I have deleted this program and will run other scans and some registry cleaning utilities now.
I have noticed it's been written about at pc advisor with respect to the application in question (GAOTD) and also at a-squared's website.

I cannot run any of the Alawar games. Everything downloads fine and activates but when I go to play the game it doesn't start up but bounces back to my desktop.
Sheart
Hey Sheart,
I'm not sure that this is what is going on, or why it only applies to Alawar games, but here's a little advice that Bubby gave me once that worked. I've been grateful for this advice ever since.
Sometimes a program does run, but only runs in the background for whatever reason. If you've launched it several times, you may have multiple instances running - check your task manager and close all but one instance of the game.
Then get a free program called Unlocker.
Install Unlocker, which will add a right click option to your context menu.
Go to your game (the .exe file,) right click and choose Unlocker. Hopefully, that will work, if not, I'm sorry - better come back and say that it didn't work, so that someone else can help you.
Good luck!
~ Swan
P.S. Bubby if you read this and I've misremembered anything, please rectify for Sheart, thank you.
Swan, thanks for reminding me. Looks fine. :)
I have had the problem with the Alawar games not running on my computer (as reported by Sheart), but today is a little different. Instead of getting nothing, I get an error message: Setting Videomode failed. Any ideas?
Two of the requirements to run the game -
16M Video 3D
DirectX 9.0
If you click Start -> Run Programs
and type "DXDiag" (without the quotes, then press enter)
On the "System" tab - The system information should list "DirectX Version:" as being "DirectX 9.0" or higher (Currently 9.0c is the latest, unless you are running Vista)
Then Click the "Display 1" tab, and in the "Device" Section - Make a note of the Name, Chip Type and Approx. Total Memory.
Also Click on the button marked "Test Direct3D" The tests for versions 7, 8, and 9 should all pass.
My Wondershare DVD to iPhone isn't working. None of my scans detect anything at all. I click on the icon and it won't start up.

I just installed "Process Explorer" yesterday and was surprised at its findings on software highlighted as "Packed Images" (software that is hiding malware, adware, trojans etc code from antivirus/antispyware). All three are from GAOTD - Titan Backup, RoboTask and Sticky Password. I use 2 of them extensively and now I am a bit worried.
HELP! Hopefully this is false reporting on Process Explorer's part?
If I came to that conclusion I'd be surprised too.
Yes, some malware, adware and trojans are distributed inside or as packed images.
Some antivirus/antispyware when it discovers packed images, report that the files might contain malware, adware etc.
The same logic, policemen carry a gun. Therefore anyone who has a gun is probably a policeman.
Legitimate software can run code from packed executables also. Another example some programs use global hotkeys (like the hotkeys setting in stickypassword). Monitoring the keyboard to perform an action when a key is pressed is a similar technique that keyloggers use (although for a different purpose) - some antivirus software might indicate that a program that has hotkey functionality might be a keylogger.
Antivirus software heuristic detection can only present the symptoms to you - the final decision on whether the software is infected is a decision you must make based on what you know about the software (and how it works).
Thanks for the funny analogy BuBBy! As I said before, it wasn't an AV app that found anything, it was what Sysinternals Process Explorer sees as POTENTIAL hidden code. According to Sysinternals, the files it highlights in purple have a type of malware etc that is hidden in code where an AV program (and a spyware checker) would not find it.
Oh well. I figure as long as ZAP is blocking these apps from the Internet connection, I am not going to worry. It was just weird to see three of my favorite GOATD apps listed that way and wondered if anyone else noticed this!
BTW - I found out about Process Explorer on the GAOTD comments of "WhatsGoingOnInMyPC" so I thought someone else may also have these apps and saw this purple highlighting.
What is up with GAOTD right now? It is 4:45am ET and nothing new is posted yet! I hope all is well in GAOTD World!!!
Yep I use process explorer all the time as my Task Manager replacement (Actually SysInternals tools make up a large part of my Top20 favorite tools). Just remember that Process Explorer is highlighting them only as a file that has packed code. Legitimate programs can have packed code just as Malware can. No need to be spooked unnecessarily.
(GOTD is up and running - you might need to look at the other language sites if you can't find the giveaways on the English site - ie. pick a different language on the main page)
I have downloaded the ApolloDVDCreator, the 11/5/2007 free giveaway, and have unziped the file received, When I try to run the set up file, I continually get a message that states "Activation module failed to connect to Giveawayof the day.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later or check your firewall settings."
I have tried to activate the setup for over 45 minuts with no success, I have even tried to shut down my firewall with no success,
When i downloaded the program Cleanse Unistaller I followed the read me files directions as i normally do; meaning I activated it first, then installed it.
no matter how many times i do this, when i run run the program it says it is an unregistered copy and will expire in two days unless i enter a register name and serial number.
I enjoy this website immensely and appreciate any help you could offer.

If you are running Vista,
You need to right click on activate.exe and run "activate" as "Administrator".
Hi.
I got an Trojan horse when I installed ''Safe’n'Sec Pro''!
It's very annoying.
Hey I got a Trojan horse from Safe'n'Sec Pro too!
Avast home caught it when I was cheking it out.

Hi, I downloaded and installed AVI2DVD and it installs and activates fine. When I try to run it, I get the error: Access Violation at address 0078A08F in module 'GLPlayer.dll'. Write of address 054C6000. Can anyone please possible help or advise any assistance with this error? I have searched online, but nothing.
Thank you.
After starting today's game giveaway I'm getting the following error report from DefenseWall HIPS (GOTD 11/20/07):
"Process 'D:\Games\Magnussoft\Jack's Boulder Match\Boulder.exe' <b>reads keystrokes</b> via RegisterRawInputDevices".
Is it just the "well known" false positive or should we, and I mean all among the GGOTD community, consider JBM being
hidden spyware? Either way, one of the two developers apart from the fact being a beta ought to thoroughly optimize
their product given away to unsuspecting users.
In case you know what'll be going on from January in the country of JBM's developer (Whiterabbit might know) as far as
all means of security policy is concerned (in the US a similar situation could evolve), there's a real chance for us
having been fed with spyware.
So, take this as serious!
Mercurius,
As far as the game goes - RegisterRawInputDevices is part of setting up a custom keyboard handler (so a program - such as a game - can tell when the user presses or releases a key on the keyboard). This happens from time to time while playing many games.
Hopefully it is nothing to be alarmed about.
As for your theories about security policy in foreign countries (possibly the US) involving the developers of this game and an evolving situation whereby the first strike involves "Jacks Boulder Match"... I would suggest you contact somebody else (preferably someone with access to a nuclear arsenal). I'm off to stock up on tinfoil.
Thanks, BuBBy, for your reply. But I am not that happy with it finding it difficult to get through to your real opinion.
If you mean "hopefully" seriously, not ironically (I'm missing the smiley), it does to my mind express something quite alarming.
As to the security policy topic, I must have been misunderstood (again, if your words are not ironical as a whole).
What I've been wanting to point out isn't linked to any nuclear scenario or s.l.t., based on a realistic approach at least, but to the upcoming political situation in Germany (that's where Magnussoft are situated).
The German government recently has passed a resolution that beginning from January 08 all, and I mean ALL, telecommunication data running inside, out of or into Germany (they say, the connection only, not the content) will be STORED for the duration of six months each. There's consent that German security authorities(!) shall be allowed to install spyware (trojan horse) onto the computers of alleged extremists while online.
Since GOTD is rejoicing growing popularity worldwide (what's very much appreciated by me, thumbs up for your great job!) it undeliberately struck my mind when getting the error report mentioned this could be a new kind of ruse in the German combat against extremism (in fact sometimes it appeares more like Cervantes' windmills). :)
I would love to rely on your "guarantee" to give away only tested software 100% clean from virus and spyware.
But in a time where "1984" cannot be laughed off as utopian literature but instead increasingly becomes a realistic option I find it rather hard to trust anybody out there ...
BTW, is this major context so much afar from why you've provided this particular forum section at all?!
The last couple of days your downloads have been blocked by 'Sophos Web Security' as containing malicious code. Now either 'SnapLogger' and 'Captain Tray' both had something bad in there or you have made a change to the activation code that Sophos is picking up as a false positive. I have requested Sophos 'manually' check the SnapLogger zip and am awaiting the result. In the mean time can you confirm/deny that a recent change has or has not been implemented.
#2: I have just tried todays game download:
http://w3.wikifortio.com:8080/CrusadersOfSpaceOpenRange.zip
and that is reporting the exact same problem. The point of commonality in all these is Activate.exe. Whatever the change was means GOTD is now unusable.
What is the EXACT error message that you are getting?
Have you tried scanning your system with anything else to verify?
When did the problem occur? After download, activation, or setup/install?
Hello,
'Sophos Web Security' will not allow the download of the file in the first place. The server will scan any file before allowing download. The exact error message is...
The file requested contained malicious code and was blocked from downloading.
not that would help you in anyway. I also see that someone else has the same problem with yesterdays and todays download as well (post #21).
Has a file that is consistent within all these downloads changed?
You must log in to post.
