I first installed AnVir Task Manager (I'll call it ATM hereafter) when it was given away by GOTD in the middle of last year and liked it so much that I used it to replace the standard task manager on my XP+SP3 laptop. So when a later version became available on GOTD the other week I had no hesitation in downloading and installing that. Apart from the title bar buttons being a bit reluctant to appear it seemed fine.
In the time since, I have found that my input to programs has become "spongy" - sometimes when typing a key there is a noticeable delay before it gets displayed but there were also delays when using the mouse to click to close a tab, scrolling a webpage or when the mouse cursor changes because it's hovering over a clickable link. These delays could last well over a second making my system quite annoying slow to use.
So, over the course of the last several days, I tried eliminating various programs from the system startup without success and was running out of options as to what to try - but yesterday I remembered ATM, stopped it from running and, lo and behold, my machine has regained its expected rapid response to the various inputs.
Since I made very few changes to the default settings, has anyone else had similar problems with ATM? or should I put it down to a compatability problem with other software that I have running?
I have alternatives for those extra window buttons that it provided and also for the task manager, and so I'm not desparate to start using it again but I do like to try to find out why problems like this have happened.
