   I was reading through the comments on today's giveaway, Streaming Video Recorder, and noticed there were a few people commenting on the poor WOT rating. I took a look at it, and I feel the company is being judged unfairly. It has three negative comments. But if you look at them, you'll see what I mean.

   1) An unproven claim that merely states they have adaware on their site

   2) A broken link claiming positive virus by 3 of 24 A-V's (false positive no doubt)

   3) An unhappy GOTD member who probably updated the program and lost functionality.

   Is it just me or does that seem a little harsh? It makes me wonder how many people will write this developer off and any further developers with similar ratings. Just how well can we believe sites like WOT? I know that for the most part, people mean well and want people to know if something is going on, but you have those malicious people that will do it for sport or revenge.

   I just hope everyone will do a little reading about why the sites have poor ratings, instead of merely writing them off based on a score or color.

   That's the bad thing with WOT, you can just give a poor rating without a word, and most users are too lazy to read the reviews, just look at the colour of the circle.

   I use WOT but I always try to find what is behind the voting. Honest reviewers have some reputation, and give a link to their tests.

   I agree Wizz.
   Maybe some should read what WOT is all about and the way it works and not 'trust' it blindfolded.

   So I hope people will read your comment over here.

   Too bad they'll miss this pretty neat program too,right?

   I'm not into converters..lol.. but this program does a good job downloading,trimming and converting.

   I am Warxas from WOT.
   First of all, I'd like to say I love Giveaway of the Day! It is an amazing website that I have recommended to many, many people.

   Now, I am rather disappointed to find out that they are offering Streaming Video Recorder 2.0.7. I am not entirely sure if this software is dangerous. Though, the developer of this software, apparently has at least one infected download on it's site.

   Most of us forum members do use WOT...
   :)

   Wizz does make a point though.
   Even SiteAdvisor lists a bad shopping experience that goes like this:
   

   This site gave away software free on 8-18-2009 on giveawayoftheday.com. It was full version for about 2 mo. and then reverted to trial version. My e-mails to them were ignored.

   
   ...
   Not really fair and this looks more like some kind of revenge to me.

   I myself can not speak for the user(s) who have commented bad on this software because it reverted to a trial.

   My original report, was uploaded to a different site, but because I could not get a working link. I uploaded it to Virustotal. So because it was a different site that is why the result is different. :)

   I agree.Too bad the trial version seems to be infected.Can't argue on that one.

   That was my point, I have absolutely no idea if the software offered today is clean or not. Thing is, I wouldn't really trust software made by a company that has at least one infected download on their site.

   Side note, please tell me how you got that result?
   I attempted to download today's software but the installation file is simply to big to upload to virustotal...?

   I will keep my rating red for their site, unless they remove the infected trial.

   The guys at Virustotal created a small program to send suspicious files without first having to open your browser and connect to their website.
   It's about 140KB, (MD5: 9edab310d6d226164026e555a2daed97) and it enables you to directly send files from your system using the context menu.

   New in version 2 of this tiny program is that it checks if someone already uploaded the file(by means of a hash check) so you don't need to upload it again - unless you really want to.

   After submission it opens your browser to show the results of the file being scanned by 41 different antivirus programs

    Hi and welcome to the GOTD forums, Warxas!

    Thanks for your update to the WOT comment. I would appreciate if it would be possible, that every negative rating has some sort of evidence like yours. Of course I know, it's impossible to avoid fakes.
    Hopefully WOT can strengthen its basis and position, as it's an important guard against the increasing bad business practices.

    Welcome warxas,

    I'm sorry but I would still find that to be inconclusive with only 6 of 41 confirming. Of those 6, only two were tried and true respected A-V's..kaspersky and nod 32. I'd still consider a false positive if it were me. However, It's hard to ignore Norton's as well. Believe me though, I'm not saying the company is not malicious or doesn't host malicious content. I'm simply trying to convey to the community that they need to read the comments before they jump to a conclusion.

    Hello,
    I am not entirely sure what you are getting at?
    Today's software's' site is rated green in WOT, Norton, and Siteadvisor.
    I wasn't questioning the reliability of GOTD, I was questioning the reliability of Streaming Video Recorder 2.0.7. :)

    Oh, I thought you said that you tried today's giveaway and it was clean! Sorry about that.

    Alright, Streaming Video Recorder 2.0.7 may be clean.

    Also, please understand I'm not bashing GOTD in anyway! I love GOTD, and Streaming Video Recorder 2.0.7 might be alright. I just don't think that they should offer software from a developer that has malware on their site.
    That was yesterday's giveaway though, so it doesn't really matter anymore. lol ;)
