Nowadays for me this holiday is mostly about memories [I can't/don't do crowds that well], as a kid decorating our bikes to ride in the local parade, in later years taking the kids to the local equivalent of a small fair, then sitting out doors to watch the fireworks that evening. In central Florida it was quite nice as you'd spread a blanket on the ground on the grassy bank of a river. When the kids were only a couple few years old, before we moved to FL, we just walked outside & sat since the local fireworks were only about 1/4 mile away. Before the kids came along, I'm just forever grateful I survived with all my fingers, with my hands intact, & that we never burned anything down with the pyrotechnics [though with the rockets we came uncomfortably close once or twice].

Yeah, Mike, I guess when most of us look back on our childhood, we kinda wonder how we ever survived, even if we only did the normal childhood stuff; and July 4th was certainly the riskiest holiday of them all, but sure great fun!
