I don't know anything about the company, but they've released several of their products for free. Looks a little too complicated for my simple mind, but it may be of some use to others.

I keep getting this
"We're sorry. Due to popular demand this product is temporarily out of serial numbers. Please try again after 12/3/2009."I will.

Oh! I didn't know that serial numbers have such a long growth period.

Looks like they used fertilizer, the offer's working again.

Downloaded the Square 1 synth and installed it but all I've got is a DLL (Square I.dll) and an uninstall program.
It installs itself in a subfolder called Vstplugins which itself is inside a folder called Cubase VST32
It seems you need at least the Cubase Essential 5 Personal Music Production System to make it work and THAT is not free.
Still a good offer for the lucky ones who have a Cubase (Might work with older versions)
I suspect the same is good for the other offers

Nope that's the only file that required Cubase, Paul. All the others are stand-alone or at least have their own exe's. Not sure how to use the programs, but I may learn eventually. I actually have a copy of cubase laying around, and already had it installed so ran into no troubles with Square 1. I think I got it with my sound card and didn't know what it was so installed it just in case lol.

Thanks for the heads up, wizzard!
I indeed have gotten the others and they don't need anything else.
Nest time I won't assume because of just one product.

Am I understanding that Sq1 needs another app installed to work, but the other 4 offerings are all stand alone and will work as installed w/o any other special needs?
Thanks.Posted 14 years ago # -
Yes MrFishy,
Sq1 needs the Cubase program as it is just a DLL but the others are executables

Hmm... funny thing. The AFX packs really don't care what you enter in the serial number field, as long as it follows a specific pattern, and it's a really loose pattern.

If you want to use Square I but don't have an VST program, try this http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm
It works pretty good and has a built-in keyboard that you can try the sounds on.
@"The Quantum Dragon" AKA Paul: I don't think any of the AFX programs have exe files. They need some sort of DirectSound or something host to work.

Hey, look at what I just found: non-purchase download page for the above products. Go here: http://www.cakewalk.com/products/Gifts-for-musicians/Existing_Customer.asp and the free products are at the bottom of the page. You'll probably have to register first, but you won't need to go through a purchase routine with these.
Edit: And if you wnat Square I without even creating an account, click on the demo download link at http://www.cakewalk.com/Products/SquareI/ . The resulting VST plugin is the same size as the purchased version, so they should be the same.

You are right GMMan,
They are indeed Executables but for installation not actual use, my bad!
Thanks for the VSTHost program!

@ GMMan & others
For those particular "FREE" offers, you do NOT need to register, you just click the offers one by one and save the files to your computer.
I did that myself earlier and it works (unless they suddenly changed the system)
