For the last 3 days I have been trying to download and install Plasma Being and 8 Bit Night on two different computers. Plasma Being gets to 98% and just hangs. 8 Bit Night completes the download and then hangs at validating existing files. I googled the problem and found some 2012 incidents of this nature but none recently. I have a bunch of files from previous bundles to install but a little leery to continue with the 2 current problems.I picked Paranormal at Random to play and it worked so it must be a downloading and or validating problem for new installations.
Anyone else having problems with Desura?

Oh YES!
Lots of problems with Desura.
Different games have different problems. They announce an update - but can't find or install it, sudden crash, download and redownload of win tools, ready installed - for just a few minutes then again not ready, error during MFC install process... error here and error there.I asked for help in the forums - in vain. When I have time, I'll try to get some answers from support.
The good thing, you don't need the client. You can download the games and play them freestanding.
I think the mess started after I added my steam account. But I'm not sure.
In the past I never installed the Desura client, I just downloaded the games.
Now I'm trying to get my games organised and installed all of them, not to miss any update.graylox

I have had occasional problems including an issue with getting hung up near completion. As I recall, I got around it pretty easy. I think I did something like pausing and then restarting. I did get 8-Bit Night while it was free (it is now 50% off = $2.49) and don't recall if it was without any or doing something as simple as the pause/restart trick.
My overall experience with Desura has been pretty positive and I am building up a sizable backlog (mostly free games and from purchasing various bundles and indiegamestand games).

I didn't know that one could download and play the games without the client. I have basically been collecting the free games to play later but the bundles have been having more desura titles, If both a pc version plus a steam or desura version is offered, I generally don't use the keys and save them in a text file.
I installed the latest version on my win 8 computer(Desura), paused the download, rebooted, etc and no luck. Maybe I will reboot my dsl modem and see if that works. Same problem on both computers.

Sorry you are having problems Magoo. I previously put 8-Bit on my desktop. As a test I just installed it on my laptop (Win7 x64) without any problems so there probably is an issue with your setup.

It helped - it helped to vent here - LOL
Suddenly all but 1 game are "ready" and all updates are installed.
Lumber Island still tells me, that there is nothing to install - but then it starts and I can play it.8-bit is fine too.
I deleted all files of the broken installations and reinstalled.
I did that before, but this time it seems to be successful.Well, I'll see the result tomorrow after a reboot.
However, there is one annoyance I really don't like.
Desura adds itself into startup. It helps to disable autostart, but as soon as I manually launch Desura it's back in startup.
I deleted autostart exe with SysInternals to no avail. That's bad behaviour.

It finally worked (both files) on one computer and then after trials and tribulations, worked on the other computer. I had to cancel download which wouldn't cancel until exiting and restarting Desura. Each file hung up three times, I had to cancel, restart, and so on.Files were downloading circa 50 kpbs instead of 1000 kpbs. Good thing 8 Bit Night was only 8 meg. What a pain.

Glad you got what you wanted, but odd you are having these problems. I am not having any of these issues. I have it set to auto-login, and for a while I was having to re-login whenever I changed computers, but that is OK now.
graylox, Desura must really like you to keep coming back. Desura isn't in my startup at all (I don't have the autostart option selected in autostart).

I LOL-ed too early :(
7 of the 8 problematic games are back to "not ready" and Desura is of course back in my startup.
I'm not afraid for the games, but the startup thing is really annoying.

Desura has been working fine for me. Have you checked how much disk space you have left? Before I reinstalled Desura and pointed it to a different disk for installation, I wasn't able to install any game even though I still had around 30GB of space on my drive (its only a small SSD). When I changed it to a larger drive with loads of space the problem was cured.

I deleted autostart exe with SysInternals to no avail. When installing Desura you have the option [checkbox] to autostart with Windows. I tried monitoring the install both ways, with the box checked & un-checked, to detect the changes or difference between them, & didn't see anything in the registry other than the entry added to the Run key you mentioned. That would leave the changed .xml, .js, & .sqlite files as the place the autostart configuration was/is stored, & indeed C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Desura\DesuraApp\settings_b.sqlite shows " %gc_autostart1%gc_corecount1 Þ Þï " so I'm guessing that's it.
