Another get loaded starts on the 31st May. Looks like this is yet another way of getting cheap games. (And another nail in the coffin for many developers if this trend of offering AAA games at riduculously low prices continues).
(I'm probably only saying this because I've paid more or less full price for every one of the games in the first 'get loaded', and will probably have most of the games in all upcoming get loaded deals.
That said, I do believe that fewer gamers will be willing to pay full price for all but the most interesting games (personal to each gamer), which will have a knock on effect w.r.t. quality. That will lead to closures in the not too distant future. Already big names like THQ (who developed the fantastic Red faction Guerilla amongst others) no longer exist due to the massive reduction in profits gained from developing decent game titles. There are only a few developers who seem immune to this destructive force (blizzard and Activision) Just as an example it cost activision 200 million dollars to make and market Modern Warfare 2, but because its one of those games you won't see in a bundle (at least for the forseeable future) because it demands a lot more money from punters, who are willing to pay for it due to a massive fan base. Even the first Modern Warfare is still selling for around 60% of its release price six years after its release, and the original Call of Duty, which was released nearly 10 years ago (this coming October will be the 10th anniversary) is still selling for half the price it was 10 years ago; wheras most AAA games will sell at 75% off within a year and even less later on.
I've already started to hold off on many games until at least a 50% reduction is seen,(I've recently picked up sevral games for between 50 to 755 off that were only released this year) and, in the case of many indie games until they appear in a bundle, which inevitably most will, as the short term gains will seem appealing to many small developers struggling for cash..
I'm sure it will impact on quality eventually. :(
Does anyone agree with my prognosis or do you thnk these deals will help developers in the long run?
