Hi, I apologize for being a month late with this post. I had no problem cleaning the 'crapware' off my computer so I didn't realize it was such a problem for others. Because of this, I didn't fully document what I did. But that would only have been important to those who are on XP SP3, where as the procedure should work for all.
WARNING !!!! This will require manual manipulation of your files and registry.
After discovering that my browsers were redirecting me and Outpost warning me of a 'rundll.exe' trying to access the internet when I used SoundFrost or any Browser, it took less than a half hour to resolve while leaving SoundFrost in perfect operating condition.
1. Checked Outposts log and found that the DLL trying to run was 'SoundFrost.dll'
2. I checked the date and TIME that SoundFrost was installed.
3. Scanned my entire OS drive for anything CREATED on that same day and sorted the results by date.
4. Scrolled to the proper TIME and listed any folders, .exe and .dll with the same time in Notepad EXCEPT those in the SoundFrost install dir or related to it.
5. Ran 'Soft Organizer' (formally 'Full Uninstall') found the other 5 installs that were installed by SoundFrost used it to uninstall them.
NOTE: Soft Organizer did an exceptional cleaning job.
6. Searched the whole drive for the items in my list and deleted a couple of inconsequential pieces that remained.
7. Scanned my Reg for those same list items and deleted them.
NOTE: You will need at least a basic understanding of your registry to do this without Potential Severe Damage.
NOTE: FYI I noticed during my scan that all the 'Crapware' installed was actually NON MALICIOUS 'Adware' and Marketingware' with redirects.
8. Feeling satisfied that I had removed at least 90% of this junk and there by disabling them, I rebooted.
9. Ran SoundFrost and found no problems, but noticed that the 'SoundFrost.dll' was no longer trying to access the internet.
10. I renamed 'SoundFrost.dll' to 'SoundFrost.dll.bak' with no ill effects on SoundFrost.
11. On a hunch, I also renamed 'SoundFrostService.exe' to 'SoundFrostService.exe.bak' still with no problems.
NOTE: You could probably delete these without incident. ( Unsure what might happen on other OS's? )
12. Finally I used 'Advanced System Care" to cleanup the drive and registry. Haven't had a problem since.
NOTE: ASC cleaned up anything I left because I was unsure if it was safe to delete or were unimportant.
This left SoundFrost intact, my only problem is that I have no interest in poor quality videos. I thought it was for music files. I left it installed but consider it to be 'space fodder'.
Good Luck,
Pic-Z
