I wanted to mention that you'll probably want to run Activate.exe in each profile where you want to run the game -- I'd guess that some folks have separate profiles for the kids or grand kids where they might want this game to run. Running Activate.exe adds the license key to the registry along with some display settings, which might be why the game developers suggested running it 1st before trying to start the game. And in Vista -> win8 you'll likely want to run Activate.exe as admin to make sure those registry entries do get written.
Otherwise Cabby Gills uses the Unity game engine, & didn't seem to be use or require much in the way of resources at all -- probably a plus on laptops where unlike some games it won't play vampire, sucking the life out of the battery in no time. Don't see anything unusual about Cabby Gils that would make it more prone to crashing -- it does use D3D 9 & Open GL, & it won't run without graphics hardware support. It does create a new sub-folder with logs if/when it crashes to help troubleshooting.
