Doesn't seem that different from what you probably know to watch out for with e-mail, but I'd guess maybe with those switching from Messenger to Skype it hasn't occurred to them yet that they have to watch out for exploits. 2nd blog talks about the EU being effected & low virus detection rates.
Assuming you don't fall for any of this stuff, enough people do that you have to be careful, maybe almost assume their PC/laptop is infected when they want to pass on files or whatever or hook up to the network you're using.
