When installing the GOTD software giveaway for 23 March, 2013, Ideal Blu-ray Ripper, on a Windows 7 computer, I got a pop up from GOTD asking me to install "informer" along with the registration number. I declined to do this, and attempted to use the exact same registration code within the software itself, which told me that the code was incorrect. As I did not know what "informer" was, there is no way I was going to allow it access to my computer. Can you tell me what exactly this "informer" is, and what it does? Thanks.
What exactly is "informer"

As Stevie said or posted re: Software Informer.
Am I correct in reading that Ideal Blu-ray Ripper wouldn't register for you?
When you run the GOTD setup.exe it starts the setup program for whatever app is enclosed, & once that's run its course & installed, the GOTD setup will display a pop-up with info on registering/activating the app, plus it has the offer to install Software Informer -- once you close that pop-up window your browser will open to the GOTD site. The registration/activation info shown by the pop-up is limited by the available space, so it's generally a good idea to read the readme.txt file as well in case there are any further or more detailed instructions.
Activating today's GOTD shouldn't pose any problems, though as usual you may need to run it in an admin account or profile so it can write the needed registration info to your hard drive. Click on the gear sort of icon in the upper right, between the minimize & close buttons, select register, click Register BlurayRipper, copy/paste the code provided in the space & click OK. Please let us know if that doesn't work for you & maybe someone will be able to help.

I remember the Software Informer now! I used it about a year or so ago. It was very annoying to me at the time! It installs a small s on your taskbar, with a circle around it, that is, that's the way it worked back then and it lets you know if one of your software is out of date. At first, I thought that it was OK, but then it started to get annoying! It will tell you that this particular software is needing updated, then this software and so on and so on! But, on the plus side, your software will always be updated, whether you like being informed or not!

That is correct. Ideal Blu-ray ripper would not register for me. After I clicked to close the "informer" offer, nothing else happened. I will try it again, but suspect I have now gone over the time limit, and so will still have no joy. Thanks for your detailed explanation.
Further to: Yep. It is beyond it's giveaway time.

Hi themainviking, you can 'sometimes' install and register giveaways for at least an hour or longer after the giveaway has ended so long as you've managed to download the setup file before or started to download before the giveaway ends..

The above comment made by me is no longer valid. Once the 24hr period is over the software cannot be installed.
