Supergiant made me happy and sad with Bastion, but the only thing that would truly make me sad is if their next game failed to arrive on my PC, your PC and everybody else’s PC. We now know that the game is called Transistor and there’s a trailer below but the release platforms haven’t been confirmed yet. It’ll be playable at PAX East and here’s how the story begins:

…players assume the role of a young woman who gains control of a powerful weapon after a mysterious group of assailants nearly kills her with it.

Studio co-founder Amir Rao recently said that the team felt they could ‘do anything’ and judging by the trailer, they’re doing something not a million miles removed from Bastion, which is no bad thing.

Music with vocals! Isometric action! A big sword! And maybe some side-scrolling action as well! Will there be a narrator?

Unfortunately, there’s no guarantee this will come to PC, or anything else for that matter.

We expect Transistor to be released in early 2014. We have not yet decided on which platform or platforms the game will be available for.

It’s a Game Gear game, isn’t it?

The first footage of Supergiant’s Transistor suggested that the game would not be entirely dissimilar to the studio’s splendid isometric smash ‘em up, Bastion, although it did lack one of its predecessor’s most distinctive features – the superb narration of Logan Cunningham. Total Biscuit captured fifteen minutes of the game at PAX East and has uploaded a version without commentary, so that another voice can be heard and, by gum, it’s Logan again. He’s a sort of sidekick rather than a narrator this time around, a voice trapped inside the protagonist’s sword. She doesn’t have a voice of her own – the baddies have robbed it! – but it sounds like Mr Cunningham will be doing enough talking for two.

Tactical time freezing! World-weary tones of regret and confusion! FUTURE CITY

Not sure we’ve posted about the Humble Weekly Sale yet. This is because all we enlightened souls on RPS all dispute the concept of ‘weeks.’ It’s an artificial tyranny imposed upon us by the secret world government in order to keep us from the independent thought that would allow us to realise there are in fact 417 days in a year. The world leaders spend these hidden 52 days at a giant orgy the rest of us aren’t even aware of, let alone invited to, because we’re too busy working, paying the taxes which fund that immense, secret international flesh-fest. It makes me so angry! Thus, I’m sickened that the Humble Bundle guys feel they can make light of the insidious concept of ‘weeks’, that they can appropriate this tool of ultimate opporession for a pay-what-you-want bundle of awesome indie games. This week – OH GOD THEY MADE ME SAY IT – it’s the turn of the incomparable Blendo Games. Atom Zombie Smasher, Flotilla, 30 Flights and Loving and more are yours for a low, low, customisable price.

It’s perhaps tempting to think of Blendo – aka Brendon Chung – as the guy who just makes oblique, cut-up spy thrillers, but what this pack does is demonstrate the chap’s remarkable breadth. Inventive, genocide-scale real-time strategy; space combat and exploration; edutainment starring jet planes. And yeah, an oblique, cut-up spy thriller. Brilliant, brilliant stuff.

Finally, for the rather hefty sum of $125, there’s all of this stuff minus EU4. Adding this all up reveals a rather impressive saving of $606.56, give or take various conversion math problems and Steam’s “unique” way of pricing games in different regions. Probably worth it. Our small but growing Linux audience may also be interested to know that CK2, Teleglitch and Knights of Pen & Paper as well as the unincluded EU4 are all available on the platform.

So, are you going in? Honestly, even I’m tempted and I barely have the patience to put my socks on in the morning, nevermind this grand strategy nonsense. If you ever some how exhaust this sheer amount of game, Paradox do have a habit of releasing mountains of DLC. Some may deride this but you’ll never have nothing new to play and, let’s be honest, saying the Europa Universalis guys sold you less than a full game is probably missing a trick.
