   I got fed up with the constant updates of java (now up to 17) the other day so I got rid of it (it actually got rid of itself because it tried to update wrong and found itself locked out of where it wanted to put it - other than where it already was).

   However, I just found out that PDFill utilities use java. I use that to split up PDFs that have extraneous pages. Not every page split out -- just some - like pages 1-3 and 5 for example. PDFill works great. However, if I can do it without dependence upon java, I would prefer that.

   Does anybody have any recommendations? All I want is a simple split/merge capability and no java required.

   pdfcore will do what you want and leave your java in the mug. It will split the files in blocks of "X" pages, by bookmarks, or any desired page ranges.

   Thanks, Chris. I'll give it a try. I found 7-PDF that seems to work but this is far more flexible. It can't hurt to give it a try.

   I've used PDF Creator for years - the developers behind it have a fairly new app out called PDF Architect, which is avail. free & paid -- the free version does handle merging but it doesn't mention splitting or deleting pages http://www.pdfarchitect.org/download

   Also, comment 12 on today's GOTD download page mentions BDJ offering Debenu PDF Maximus tomorrow.

   Okay, I'll be downloading the trial version on PDF creator. Let's see if splitting is really worth it. :)

   Use PDF24 ist a very good Freeware pdf split and merge program and much more.
   language is even in english.

   Download please here: ---EDIT---

   install it, then go to preferences and Change language from German in english.
   Test it, I use it since 2 years ist very good without Java.
