   I got a notice for a java update today to release 13 of version 7. From what I can tell, it's been out for 2 weeks and I just got the notice. I updated it and then disabled it in Firefox. The question is -- can it be enabled? Is this one safe?

   I just now updated my Firefox to 19 (the notice popped up just as I was preparing to write this post) and it had not automatically disabled my Java 7 13 as it had for 7 11 so I don't know.

   Everything on the web says this was rushed out 2 weeks early because of of the 50 vulnerabilities was being actively exploited on Apple products. It's been 2 weeks now so I ask -- Is this version safe to leave enabled??????

   Apple got caught the other day because the exploit was 0-day... no one had seen it before so no one knew it was possible, just as no one at the AV companies knew to protect against it.

   I like the saying: "The more there is, the more there is to go wrong".

   At any rate that's how I look at it... I rarely if ever run Java in a browser so I have it disabled in my browsers -- if I do need it I lose a little time turning it back on, but I feel the odds of losing that bit of time are less than the odds of losing much more time due to an infection with Java always on. But that's me, & I rarely use Java, almost never in a browser.

   That's a good idea' I've always left it running in the background previously, simply becasue i've been under the impression that quite a few of the programs I run require it, but in actual fact, after turning it off I didn't see any difference in running the computer, so thanks for the suggestion. :)

   Terri,

   I have NO idea. There were other updates after this and Firefox continued to block it. I got tired of the constant updates and just removed it entirely. I found ONE product that needed java and I just found a similar product and used that.

   Constant updates (last I heard was 15 or 17, I think) does not give users a "warm fuzzy"!
