   A fair bit of effort is put into providing comments on the feature set, useability, stability and output of many of the programs made available via GOTD.

   It would seem to be a good thing for GOTD both to show to developers and to those who comment what the actual benefit of their using the site is. e.g. with 'Skytrain's File and Disc Recovery/Eraser 6.1.5', what features, improvements, etc have resulted from the previous exposure of v6.0.2 to the GOTD audience.

   As yet, I don't think I've seen any such acknowledgment of GOTD user input, which means there's less incentive for developers to offer high quality, up to date, full versions of their applications, less incentive for people to give useful reviews and that you're missing a trick in showing the value of the GOTD to both.

   Just something to ponder.

   I agree with you Simples. I've been trying to say someting similar when posting my reviews over in the game giveaway section. The following is what I post at the end of the review in the hope that a lot more community members would post good feedback. I've always believed that if developers see good feedback, they are more likely to use the site again and again. Trouble is only 0.1% of those downloading games bother to post anything, and of those only about 10% post useful feedback.

   Since posting the follwoing message, this percentage has improved slightly, but not significantly:

   A Request for help:

   Developers rely on good feedback to improve their games. If you download this game please take some time once you’ve played it a while to leave some constructive feedback either positive or negative. The more constructive feedback we get, the more likely developers are going to give more games away. The giveaway site already has a very good standing with the search engines. Developers want their products out there on the WWW, this site has the potential to do that. The game giveaway project gives away on average between 9 to 17 thousand downloads for each game depending upon what genre and how obscure the game is. That’s a lot of homes these games are being downloaded into and a lot of 'potential' cash that’s being lost by the developers. If we get better games because of better feedback, the community are likely to continue to benefit from the generosity of the developers. Satisfied community members are then more likely to visit the home sites of those developers and purchase games that they may not have bothered with before they discovered the developer via the game giveaway site, thus giving the developers more incentives to give away even more decent games.

   Please leave some feedback once you’ve checked the game out. It can be positive or negative, but please explain what your reasons were for the feedback you post. You could also leave suggestions for improving the game, for example, this game could do with more block types for the levels editor, add more power-ups, describing the ones you think would be suitable, add some mini games (which seem all the rage in some arcade games now) or enable the user to be able to change the in game music easily.

   I find the a large problem is that it often needs to come from the developers, where they have a rerun, and say "Hey look! We listened, and changed this!"

   True. Also I think if the community knew that the developer was looking at their comments we'd see more feedback coming. It's very rare that I've seen a developer comment on the game side of the project; and, to be honest i haven't a clue how many developers actually bother to visit the site.

   I think this is a great pity as there's a lot of potential for developers to gain insight into what the community wants. There are thousands of community members visit the site every weekend. If developers were to listen and take action, i'm sure both would gain, the developer through better sales and the consumer by getting better games.
