Does anyone know what's happened to Txgoogoo. All his posts now say anonymous and I've not seen him around for several days. He's usually busy posting news from Rock, Paper Shotgun and details of most of the Indie bundles.
Does anyone know what's happened to Hotdoge3, Txgoogoo and other members?

Yes, I know.
Txgoogoo is just one of the victims of the new spam filters. He shares this cruel fate with hotdoge, Terry and some other regulars.
I hope they will sign up for a new account, or that somebody has their email and can send them a note.
The GOTD team is informed.

It does seem like we are sort of turning into the word and city association site. So what is this about victims of the new spam filters? What happened to them and could I or others become "victims"?

Hi Campy,
English isn't my first language, and some "sayings" are not easy to translate.
Could you please explain what you mean with:
It does seem like we are sort of turning into the word and city association site.
To your question:
Currently it looks as if it could happen to everyone. The new set-up needs obviously some fine adjustment.
Well, maybe not everyone: when a post was deleted by the mod or the filter, the writer is in danger too.
The filter deletes often such posts which are looking like spam: DVD converters, lots of links, a link at the beginning... That's just what I noticed, I don't know if there are written rules.
Normally I watched closely the forums activities and could save several wrongly deleted posts.
But currently the filters are often faster than me and my failing computer. Sorry for that. The forums badly needed some maintenance, as the spam bots had no problem to get over the old security measures.
We were flooded by spam and it wasn't possible to get rid of the pest with our usual administration tools.
Luckily the members didn't see much of it, only the tag-cloud was telling about it.
The GOTD-team has deleted tens of thousands of accounts and spam posts. As I'm still having massive problems with my computer, I wasn't a big help for them or the users, but I'm sure, things will work out at last. (with my PC and the forums).
Hopefully all the regular users will register for a new account, if they find themselves suddenly locked out. Maybe it's needed to change the user-name and/or the email.

PS:
Several years ago I had similar problems ;)Posted 11 years ago # -
graylox, thanks for all you do here. Your English is very understandable. Thanks for the details about the spam filters.
My other comment was similar to BentleyTCow's statement about the site being "quiet". I was saying that it didn't seem to me that as much as usual being posted other than lots of post to "City Names Game" and "Word Association Game". Over the years, I have enjoyed posts from Txgoogoo, hotdoge and others and hope we hear from them again.
Good luck with your computer.

Hi all,
I know I haven't posted here much but I enjoy reading the various posts as I'm sure many do. I echo the thoughts gone before that those mentioned WILL rejoin and continue their very useful and interesting posts.
Best Wishes to all, looks like we survived the asteroid today here in the UK at least.

I made a new years resolution to watch all the Twilight Zone episodes. I started from episode 1 and currently on episode 100 via Netflix. Little did I know that the Spam Filter would send me off to the Twilight Zone but I have been reincarnated as Orgoogoo from Txgoogoo. I hope the other Exiles from the Spam Filter also return from their exiles. (:)

Hi TX or should I now say OR
Posted 11 years ago # -
Welcome back orgoogoo. Did you also move from Texas to Oregon? I have lived in both and Texas was hotter, while Oregon was wetter and greener.

Glad to see you made it back, Tx-now-Orgoogoo. Hopefully I will remember your name change, and not be confused, wondering who the 'newbie' is that is posting in an 'oldie' manner...lol.
As a side note; I'm glad I read this thread, now. Would be wondering what the heck happened if all of a sudden I couldn't login as usual...<chuckle>.

Good that the thread worked :)
I have changed the title again, hoping that Hotdoge will read it too.Posted 11 years ago # -
