No Logo, and Fit for Commercial Use: the Vue Theme-PacksPosted 15 years ago # -
Hi Txnnok,
As you suggested, there could be a rush to download the free version of Vue 8, at the moment.
I have version 7 on my PC that I had downloaded over a 56 Kb connection. I plan to wait a while until the crowd thins out before attempting to download this new release.
If I'm not mistaken, the first time I came across an incarnation of this program was when it was commercially known as Vue D'esprit 2. Even then, the software rocked!Posted 15 years ago # -
Definitely a good idea waiting. I downloaded a copy earlier today. It took nearly 6 hours to download. I love playing around with 3D environments. I used to have a similar program that was also given away free for personal use, but can't remember the name of it at the moment.
Oh yeah and another that was given away several months ago (posted in these forums) was trueSpace
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. :) I'm going to enjoy playing with this tool.
The only 3D tool i've ever purchased is AutoCAD

Hi W.R.,
I've noticed in the past couple of years that DAZ3D had provided full-versions of their applications on cover-mounted DVDS. The range of the give-aways included releases of DAZ Studio (for animation and rendering), Bryce (for generating landscapes) and Hexagon (for constructing 3D models). Often, I scour the bookstands in search of innovative software that come bundled with UK computer magazines. As a result, I've accumulated over the years a large number of programs. I have also purchased boxed versions — but these were invariably shipped from overseas and had me gritting my teeth as I waited for the packages to arrive.
From the posts I read on the GOTD forums, I gather that German websites launch frequent promotions where good software is also given away.
I don't know the names of the 3D programs you've looked at so far, but a popular freebie is Google's Sketch Up. Enthusiasts have created to date 100s of models in Sketch Up and made them available online.Posted 15 years ago # -
Again, thanks for the info

Thanks much, all, for the tip about this software download. Looked very promising.
Actual download size is: 604MB (103 files), contrary to 450MB size noted on website.
Also, setup.exe executable was totally non-functional, non-operational, non-responsive.
Tried to run it using both admin and non-admin modes on 64-bit Vista Home Premium.
Disappointed, to say the least, but that's okay. I'm sure another offer will come along.Best,
HappyPosted 15 years ago # -
Hi HappyPerson,
I'm un-happy that the install did not go as expected! I'm still at version 7 and I'm happy to report that the program continues to run well (in spite of a dozen near-fatal HDD mishaps this year)! Not unlike your computer, my PC refuses to accomodate large downloads, from time to time. With so many variables to consider, pinpoiting the source of the fault usually induces a migraine. I agree with you that the best philosophy is simply to move on to other stuff (and hope it works on the first try).Post scriptum: UDK ~ Free Version from FILEPLANET.

Oh, and the CD Intro install executable also did not work. Kept asking for the CD.
