One of the giveaways that I have enjoyed greatly is RadioGet (October 1, 2009). Yesterday an update was made available with assurance that the license of the previous version would continue to be valid. I have updated and its true, it still works. Now I have version 1.3.9 Tried to learn what was updated by visiting their website, but failed. Left me feeling a little foolish for not being able to learn what was updated.

Your right, a newer version is not necessarily better. Kinda strange author
don't list like a "what's new" or changelog.Posted 15 years ago # -
Thanks for the update prs; Radioget was one of the rare giveaways that I installed. Will see if I can detect any differences; though these updates tend to be invisible to the average user like me. :)

p.s.
That was easy, opened up the program, the update window pops up and less than a minute later it's updated. :)

This is wonderful. Thanks much for the information.
Best,

Well, I wish that I could take advantage of this update. I tried dozens of times to get this program to install and activate but I was never successful. If I remember correctly, others were having the same problem. Even if I don't remember correctly I bet others were still having the same problem. I hope that you all enjoy your program and its update. I'll probably sleep right through the next offering of this program.

While I have been lamenting my misfortune over the past few hours I've developed a very bad toothache. Even if I can get an appointment to see a dentist later today I have no one to take me.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Bigun. I wish I could help. (did you get my reply to your Email last week (Friday).

Hello Bigun,
Its true that RadioGet had a different installation routine. Luckily mine went through fine. Meanwhile why not try http://www.nexusradio.com/ I have heard good things said about it. I found nexusradio after RadioGet. So should RadioGet have an untimely demise I am heading there. I try and avoid two softwares that do the same thing on my computer. For internet radio first I had Screamer Radio, then Internet Radiofan (a giveaway) and now its RadioGet.Posted 15 years ago # -
Whiterabbit - no, I will take another look
PRS - thanks for the suggestion. I remember seeing a review of "nexusradio" some time ago. I may have even downloaded the program and then forgotten completely about it.Posted 15 years ago # -
I think I found an answer to the original question.
The RadioGet 1.3.8s that I upgraded to RadioGet 1.3.9 have recently expired. From RadioGet 1.3.9 I get "RadioGet License expired - Your license period for RadioGet has expired. Please purchase another RadioGet license to continue using it" and "RadioGet Trial Expired - Your trial period for RadioGet has expired. Please purchase RadioGet to continue using it.".
RadioGet 1.3.8 does not display this message. Instead, the automatic updating feature (which you cannot seem to turn off) prompts you to upgrade every time you start it. "RadioGet Update Available - A new version of RadioGet is available and can be installed automatically. Existing license codes will be valid with the new version. Would you like to update your copy of RadioGet now?"
You just have to remember to press NO, and you can keep using RadioGet 1.3.8.
So the only difference I have noticed is that RadioGet 1.3.9 expires. :-(

Thanks for the info Steve.

So sorry to hear that, Steve, what a very mischievous trick on the part of Radioget!

What a trick?
Just read and follow the Terms and Conditions:I downloaded, installed and registered the program on the giveaway date, but after time the version became trial. What’s wrong? According to our terms and conditions the software gained from GOTD can not be updated or upgraded to newer version. Some programs still check for updates – once you agree to update you lose the registered version. Sometimes using a Registry Cleaner can erase program registration details.
There is no "mischievous trick" and nothing to be upset about.

Oh, I'm not upset at all (quite the contrary) - For clarity - I was simply joking - as in sense of humor (ha..ha..ha) - to lighten the mood - and I think most GOTD community members will understand this LOL!

Unfortunately I was not able to detect that the Radioget expires after update. Not long after I installed that Radioget update, I needed to re-install my Windows and therby lost my GOTD programs.
I differ from Graylox. I think to offer, "Existing license codes will be valid with the new version. Would you like to update your copy of RadioGet now?" and only to find that the update will invalidate the software in a time-bound manner is playing a scurvy trick. In most cultures, I think, to make an offer that is less than honest would be called "cheating"Posted 14 years ago # -
Yes, prs, you are right, but sometimes one rule is stronger than another, one law weakens or even annuls another one.
When downloading from GOTD, the GOTD rules
Terms and conditions
are stronger. Of course, we all love those rare opportunities, when a developer allows an upgrade of the GOTD version. But we should never forget, that those are exceptions from the general rule.
When you download the GOTD, you accept the terms and conditions. When you don't like these rules, you should not make use of the daily free offering.
It's as simple as that.graylox

Maybe the developer should have been careful in the first place to not offer updates in the GOTD version. But we all know what thy're thinking: Update and have 'em lose their license so that they'll have to buy it. (Don't take that to heart, though.)

I feel that once again in a general discussion of this kind we are missing the forest for the trees. In this thread, so far, I dont think anyone has suggested that the GOTD terms have been violated. In fact I will state this explicitly, in this particular instance, there has been no violation of terms and conditions of GOTD.(I hope that's settled)
I, for one, do not write this here in the hope that somebody will offer me a solution for my problems with RadioGet. Far from it. Free progs like Radioget are dime a dozen on the internet. I write here only because this seems to be forum for discussion of events such as this. ( I hope thats settled)When the developer approaches the user and offers to specifically provide a valid update for a GOTD offering, a reasonable person does not suspect that it is a half truth and will readily fall for it. Thereby he enters into direct dealing with the program developer and in my opinion has gone beyond the GOTD terms. The errant, devious dealing done by the program developer cannot, need not and should not be justified by stating a GOTD rule.
Things like honesty and integrity are not a matter of rule or law.Posted 14 years ago # -
Found this thread after posting my own earlier this month (September). Ran into the same issue. When I complained to the RadioGet authors, they "kindly" offered me a 50% discount off their normal license fees. The purpose of GOTD is to get people talking about a particular program - hence the term "giveaway" in the name. In other words, a few folks get a program for free, and then tell their friends who end up paying for it. This is comparable to the big software companies giving away NFR (not for resale) versions of their software. In this instance, I believe the RadioGet authors have been dishonest with GOTD users by causing their allegedly free and fully-registered version of RadioGet to expire.
The next time this program comes around (if ever), GOTD users should make sure to post in the comments for the program about this expiration problem, which will hopefully result in negative ratings.
