From :
http://www.tune-up.com
Can you please give it?
I doubt that tune up utilites 2007 will be available.
I would be pee'd off if did as I paid for it 6 months ago. Like 2006 & 2004.
Kaiba,
I'm not big on freebee PC Games but I came upon this one a couple of years ago.
It's light relief if anyone is looking for something easy and a little different.

Enjoy!...(or not).
Well Wolven,
Thanks for the game! You know, it is a great game!
I fired it up on my computer and was obessed in it for 2 hours...
I would like to see another cataloging tool for my DVD collection. I have yet to find a freeware program that works. (Yes - I have checked GOTD freeware list & I can't get them to work.) The one gaveaway earlier by GOTD used "UPC codes" for finding information. (I thought I had activated it; but, it has stopped working.)8-(
lwbjag,
If you are talking Movies, try this - And it will get better with upgrades.
http://www.coollector.com/
*Where they use the word "Video" of course they mean DVD's as well.
From their site:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Encyclopedia of Movies + Video Collection Manager + Video Shopping Tool
combined inside a child-play to use Freeware.
In other words, Coollector blends 3 types of information into a unique interface:
Your cinematographical culture + your video collection + the videos available in store
( rated movies and persons ) ( with technical details ) ( with technical details too )
Coollector is (and will always be) TOTALLY FREE !!!
A must-have for Movie Lovers !
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't mean to kill the GAOTD spirit by posting freeware links, but as a challenge, let's see the software companies offer up something equal, or better to the freeware some GAOTD members have been posting.
Cheers.
Kaiba,
Sorry for keeping you out of the sunshine for 2 hours. LOL! - Glad you enjoy the game.
Many thanks "Wolven" ! I've not seen this one & I'll give it a try. It lacks the cover art; but, I can live without that if it can correctly the "edition" or "version". The picture helps. Even the program from the GOTD offer didn't find some titles I have. The website seems to have a way to "manually" enter titles & they would embed to the database for sorting. For free I can enter the info, without using the UPC codes.
Thanks again ...
lwbjag,
Cover art and personnel pics will be included in an update edition,..check the link for a preview pic.
http://www.coollector.com/teaser.gif
I hope that is what you need.
Also I seem to remember reading somewhere that their movie database will soon increase from mid 30,000's to high 50,000's, with plans to expand that even further. So you should soon be able to find/have more information than you need. They will include a music database also.
I just checked their forum and found the following news..WOOHOO!!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is a list of improvements that will be added to Coollector sooner or later.
(yep, that's a lot of work, and it's hard to tell how long it will take to realize all this)
* in addition to your movie collection, you'll also be able to manage your collections of series, documentaries, sexy movies, music, books, games, etc... We'll provide you with the corresponding catalogs, and the interface of Coollector will slightly differ from one collection type to another. For instance: genres won't be the same whether it's a movies collection or a documentaries collection ; series collections will handle episodes ; music collections will handle songs and lyrics ; etc...
* in addition to CDuniverse, Coollector will work with other online stores (of various countries and languages).
* Coollector will provide internet links to trailers, reviews, etc...
* extend criterion search with many more criteria (media type, image type, subtitles, studio, etc...).
* possibility to manually add a movie when it can't be found in the catalog.
* show prices, and create a special search for it.
* manage pictures of movies and persons
* superimpose your coollection on several catalogs simultaneously.
* allow several persons (typically a family) to share the same coollection file. For instance a husband, his wife and their children have their collection of DVDs in common, but each member of the family can give his own rating to movies/artists.
Bonus: Coollector was developped using highly cross-platform libraries (wxWidgets and Metakit) and will be ported to Mac and Linux Cool someday Whistle
@Wolven suggested - "as a challenge, let's see the software companies offer up something equal, or better to the freeware some GAOTD members have been posting."
Well that's probably the way it should work in theory - after all I guess if you are willing to pay money for software, it's reasonable to expect to get something additional, or better than the free version.
I find it hard to understand why someone would pay good money for an inferior product or service. While freeware offerings seem to continually "raise the bar", the shareware products seem to be left behind - trying to make a living out of people who don't know any better.
I know several times in the past I have used freeware and open source tools to assist the development of software for my employer.
There really isn't a hard choice to make, if I walked into the bosses office and said - I need a tool to do XYZ. Now I can use this free product now, or I can develop one myself - I will take 3 days ($$$).
Now if my version will be substantially better, and we needed those extras - my boss might agree to go ahead with the development. However, if my version will do half what the free version does right now - I'd probably walk out of the office wearing a cup of coffee - and my boss has just saved three days salary.
So why a programmer thinks they can get away with selling something for $30 when there are freeware solutions that do the same or better - is more a sad reflection on the developer of what they consider to be quality software.
Don't reinvent the wheel (for $20 a copy) - come up with something new, useful, interesting, or fun - and original. There is lots of great shareware that really is worth the money - often when there is no freeware alternative and nobody else has yet managed to write a clone to the same level of quality or features. But many more sub-standard copycats.
... Or am I wrong here?
BuBBy,
Good to see we have a guru here. As you stated, Open Source together with the standard of freeware, in general, have combined to "raise the bar" for commercial developers. That can only be a good thing for us, as consumers. We should end up with a marketplace loaded with better quality, less expensive commercial software, and along the way pick up some great freeware. GAOTD have found a niche. It's only early days, so let's hope they take full advantage of it and create a winning situation for all.
From my POV the more usable, essential, entertaining - throw in stable - the software on offer is, the more likely I am to eventually purchase it. So I hope some of the better companies will find their way here and cut us some good deals.
Btw, you are wrong - Your boss drinks tea!
"Wolven" - Thanks for you suggestion. This is much more usable than the other "free" programs. The "sneak-peek" you offered looks very promising. It isn't as "pretty" as commercial programs. I'm a little uncomfortable with the tie-ins to retail stores. I guss it's a small price to pay for a freebie.
Thanks again !
Hi everybody ! Let me introduce myself: I'm the author of Coollector.
How funny ! GOTD is a site that I check everyday (no kidding), but I found about this post by digging my website logs...
Before all, thank you very much to Wolven for his enthousiasm ! I'll do my best to never disappoint my new friend ;)
To lwbjag, who's "a little uncomfortable with the tie-ins to retail stores", I understand your feeling, because in its current state, the program is a little confusing. With the next update, hopefully in a few days, I'll add a best price search, and things will begin to be more clear. Put simply, Coollector has 3 components: a movies encyclopedia, a collection manager, and a shopping tool. The shopping tool doesn't come in the way, and you can ignore it if you want, but it can prove very useful if you're building your collection and want to unearth the best bargains. It'll make even more sense when it'll work with more stores.
And yes, I get an affiliate commission if you buy through my program. It's a solution I found to never ask you a penny. This way, I'll have more users, and nevermind if only a (small) fraction of them generates (small) revenues. It's my choice.
Still uncomfortable ?
And by saying that Coollector isn't as "pretty" as commercial programs, I suppose you're talking about the (current) lack of cover arts, or is it something else ?
Hector!
What a surprise! Pleased to meet you. Nice program you have put together. Sure I'm enthused by what I see, and even more so by your plans for the development of the software as a database for music, books, et cetera.
Here's a thought for you. Contact the people below and tell them of your product.
I think Chris (screenwriter) will be impressed. He's a really nice guy.
Victoria (novelist) is very friendly and helpful too.
If you can link to their sites or do an advertising deal, you will have access to thousands of writers, worldwide (people who love the industry, and could use your software).
Chris Wehner @ http://www.screenwritersutopia.com/
and..
Victoria Strauss @ http://www.writerbeware.org/
Also, if you need a pic of Natalie Portman for Coollector, you know where to find me. LOL!
I'll drop by your forum sometime and say hi!
---------------------------------------------------
lwbjag,
You're welcome! Glad you approve...And look at that,..you even got to meet Hector.
Hector - Nice to "meet" you. I'm sure as I become more familar with "Coollector", the ease of use will improve. I realize I likely not telling you anything you aren't aware of. Use of "UPC Codes" and "Cover art" help in narrowing a version search. Many titles have several versions and packaging. I may be premature; but, I noticed some fields were not able to have data inputed manually. The number of discs appeared pre-selected and didnot allow for additions or corrections. Expanded special features information. It would be useful to have ability to have a simplified printing option. A list of owned movies could be portable when buying or renting. A quick reference when on-line shopping. 8-))
I suppose you can work-around picture and data copyrights being an "affiliate" of a merchant. You seem to have a solid business plan for the benifit of everyone. *** That's something not seen too often ! *** 8-))
Best wishes for success ...
"Wolven", thanks again !
My website logs tell me that there's already a Coollector enthousiast on screenwritersutopia forum :))
Unless it's you ?
About musics and books, don't expect it this year... This year will be movies + series + documentaries + sexy movies. Lots of work already !
About actors pics, you're right, it will mainly work by users contribution. So you can start collecting images of Natalie Portman... oh no, you already do !
P.S: I've already used the word "already" too much.
"lwbjag", I've been granted access to CDuniverse datafeed, only 3 weeks ago. Before that, I was simply parsing html files, which don't have UPC information. And the datafeed HAS the UPC of each video ! I will inject that information into the database a.s.a.p.
"I noticed some fields were not able to have data inputed manually"
Which ones ? It must be a bug. Works here... For instance, the number of discs can be changed.
The printing option has already been requested on my forum.
http://www.coollector.com/21.html
It's not very hard for me to add it, but I -beep- have so many work in hand [rolling eyes]
"I suppose you can work-around picture and data copyrights being an "affiliate" of a merchant."
Yes, CDuniverse is ok with it, but I consider it only as a temporary situation (that helps me well to start off, I must admit). As I said, I am now building my own database, which will be more complete, and not ripped from CDuniverse. It's a tough task, but it will be a huge step forward !
Lookin' better already ! --- Manuel edit "Owned Videos" section lower left. 1xDVD R-1. Doesnot support from "Media Type" 2xDVD R-1 --- 1 disc Vs. 2 disc.
I was just playing around with it using "Star Wars Episode 1 " 2-disc set - 1 movie + 1 special features. Just as an example.
BTW - I expect GOTD to get irrated using their forum for this disscussion. I can move this to "Coollector" forum or I can email your site with my email address. Whatever is best for you. I "need" this type of program as I have 300+ videos and have discovered several duplicates. (For what I've spent on duplicates, I could have paid for MovieCollector, Etc. ) 8-))
Hector,
That may well be my arch nemesis, the 'evil twin brother' over at Utopia.
I'll check during the three-quarter moon.
I'm with lwbjag on the print function. It would be indispensable.
The sooner the -beep- better.
Thanks for the information.
Cheers.
"lwbjag", the section lower left "Owned Videos" is a summary of the videos you own of the current movie.
In "1xDVD R-1", 1 is NOT the number of discs, but the number of "editions", shall we say.
For instance, "2xDVD R-1" could mean that you have the normal DVD, and also the director's cut edition. Or maybe twice the director's cut edition, you freakin' collector LOL.
You then click to select which edition you want to see the technical details about (technical details like the number of discs, etc...)
Maybe you'll get a better idea if you read the help (click the magnifying glass button). It has animated screenshots.
That's now 3 persons who ask for printing option. It's gaining weight on my todo list ;)
Actress photos ? Headshot or fullbody ? I've some VERY good (Not nice 8-) LOL fullbody shots of Drew Barrymore and Nicole Kidman ... 8-)) LOL
lwbjag
BTW - I expect GOTD to get irrated using their forum for this disscussion
TRUE!...I suggest we spam Hector's forum with news and links to GAOTD.
Well it's only fair...ROFL!
"I suggest we spam Hector's forum with news and links to GAOTD"
I'm ok with a link, if it doesn't look like spam ;)
LWBJAG, try Musik Cube, http://www.musikcube.com/ , and Jinzora, http://www.jinzora.com/ . Both will catalog your music, with style.
"Bobby" - Thanks for your suggestions. They both look good for music. I am needing to catalog my videos. The best freeware I've found is "Coollector", mentioned earlier in this topic.
"Wolven", Bobby and Hector. FYI I found another free site & posted it in the "Coollector" forum. It looks interesting.
Thanks lwbjag.
I once used an older version of AMC which had warts. I'll try it again when I have time (just d/l'd it now) and check the features. Need that print function!
Cheers.
lwbjag, the Jinzora software will catalog music AND digital videos.
It will allow you to perform those functions on multiple computers, too, unlike iTunes or WMP.
As an aside, when I used Deligio (the freeware/shareware search engine) to search for video organizers, Coolector is the only one that appeared! Good job, Hector .. you're on the cutting edge!
Wolven "Need that print function!"
Ok, I'm convinced ! It's indeed very useful to have your list with you when you go shopping, and not too hard for me to add. I'm still struggling with the next 1.04 release, but right after (one or two weeks), 1.05 will have the printing :))
You must log in to post.
