Why are Ink cartridges so expensive,I bought a Lexmark scanner, printer come copier and coffee maker, for half price £29.99.It came with 2 Ink cartridges, one black and one colour, excellent I thought.Printed a few photos etc...Ran out of Ink very quickly,so I packed myself of uptown to buy some new ones.£14.99/£15.99 for one cartridge,so to replace the Ink costs the same as the scanner,so I thought =-~@: that I will just buy a new cheaper scanner.printer for $19.99(half price lexmark again) and guess what,It had two Ink cartridges included,so I put my old ink cartridges in the new printer and the new ink cartridges in my old printer, then sold the new printer for £20.So I got my Ink cartridges free, wont use them as fast this time...............

Get compatibles cheaper than your supermarket or puter shop.

Or goto amazon and buy a Lexmark refill kit.

The ink is where they make their money. It is like Microsoft and their Xbox. I have heard that MS sells the console at a loss and makes money on the games. At $60 per game, I can see them making lots of money!

H.P. is known to ship their printers with only enough ink for you to sample.
I think it’s crazy for the price they charge.I buy the refill bottles and refill them myself like the ones on the link below.
http://123refills.net/cic/category.php?category=Inkjet+Refill+Kits
I have seen them at times sold at Wal-Mart, and if lucky you might find them like at a cheap Family Dollar store like I did for $1.00 a bottle. I bought five bottles of each color.
Just have to be careful and do it where you’re not worried if you spill a few drops. The kits come with a syringe, a book with instructions on all different cartridges, A little eye screw to make the holes and plugs to cap them.
Depending on which colors are being used most you could get 5-6 refills per bottle of each color, also depending on the size of the cartridge. Taking good care of the cartridge I got about 15 more or less refills out of each cartridge before the heads on the cartridge either burnt out or just worn out.
Some times people will throw out a cartridge because it’s just clogged up and don’t know it. What I do is let the cartridge sit in a little bit of alcohol enough just to cover the heads on the bottom over night. Use a sheet of paper towel and let it sit for a few minutes. Lightly dab the heads then try it.
If a color is still clogged, what I do is use a straw and hold it against the refill hole and blow air into it to purge the color out. Dab the head onto a paper towel and you should see all three colors. For those that use H.P. printers, there are 2 draw backs.
1)If your H.P. software has an Estimated Ink Level you might have to do a little trick to reset it if you need to keep tabs on how much ink you have left.
Here's a link that may help.http://www.misterinkjet.com/hpreset.htm
2)There is an expiration date on the side of the H.P. cartridges that let you know that the cartridge may stop working after that date. If you have this problem there is a watch type battery and a chip in the printer that reads the date that is set in the circuitry of the cartridge. Just remove the battery. Make sure to unplug the printer when doing this. You may want to Google for more information on this.
