I think that giving away MS Office 2007 would be a very good idea, everyone uses it or wants to do so but the price tag slapped on by Microsoft is too much for most of us. And many would want to use the Office suite on more than one computer, something that would require buying another copy of Office if I'm not wrong. A total rip-off in my opinion. I'm not asking for the most expensive suite, the cheapest one, Student & Home edition, would do.

MS Office 2007 home edition is cheap, £87 ish in the UK.
However if you wish for a free office app then goto openoffice.org.
MS Office 2007 can be installed on 3 computers at home.
You can use a free version or one you pay for.

Yeah a 500 MB download, everyone hit the servers at the same time - download must be completed and installed in 24 hours or less - no reinstall permitted - no support provided - no updates (wtf?! Microsoft software has bugs?)...
It would be an interesting "experiment" but long term I think it would probably be unsatisfactory for most users & Microsoft (it's not like they would miss the $$$).
One positive - maybe it would work if GOTD moved to using Bittorrent to alleviate the load on download servers - for a large giveaway.
Or... just grab a copy of OpenOffice using Bittorrent.

Hello
Because of large amount of malware, why not purpose a software against malware, just like Ashampoo Antispyware ?
I hope it'll useful for a lot of people.
Sincerely.

Ist. Not everyone wants office [as is claimed above]
2nd. An antispyware program would be worse than useless without updates being available.
And there is, as usual, free stuff available for spyware.

I couldn't locate "software we need to know about"; but, I hope this area will fit.
I came across a software company that GOTD might want to contact. http://www.championsoft.com --- They appear to be a "small" company. I only saw "productivity" software on their web page. They also have a game not shown. It's called "Diamond Dash" and I belive it would be a good "target" for the GODTD team. The game looks like an improved version of a "Bedazzled" type (click 3) game with "special features".Posted 17 years ago #
