My wife is a bit upset and asked if Id put a request in. Shed have done it, but since were on network cna only register 1 ip. Anyways, the suggestion is to please put some type of logger in so when registered users install a game/utility and should it be needed to be reinstalled, there would be a record that the game was activated and allow the game to be re-activated as long as the ip was the same.
Reason she asks this, is 2 days ago she went to install one of the free games, it locked up during installing/registering and it killed the boot record/registery, not sure which. End result, hd was scanned for errors and repaired, but XP needed reinstalling. Once computer was running again, all the games downloaded still on the drive would no longer work and required reqistering. With all the games and program that are downloadable each year, its quite obviouse one out of the lots going to cause some problem or another to ones computer. The end user shouldnt have to suffer if the sites giving a program that caused like the above. Just a suggestion.

Just wondering, where would this "log" be stored?
Currently in every application offered so far (with the exception of only a few) the actual "activation log" is stored in the Windows registry.
There are a number of suggestions that have been made in these forums as to various ways to backup these values that would've allowed a the games to be restored.
I guess at the end of the day this only highlights why everyone recommends having a backup of data on your system that you cannot afford to lose should you PC crash, or explode in a ball of flames.
Currently many of the downloads have a setup & activation combined and many users will be unable to reinstall the games/programs after the 24 hour giveaway anyway.
At the end of the day, I cannot foresee GOTD changing their giveaway policy from GiveAwayOfTheDay to GiveAwayOfAnyDayFromToday.
The idea of the giveaway apart from the trial is: if you would like a permanent re-installable, supported license - it requires a purchase from the Software company. For Free all you get is a one-off install.
