Nice find HD. I'm not sure it's Vista with a new name. A lot of the early talk has been good. When my Vista worked right, I was impressed. Now that it isn't, I'm frustrated. Vista had a lot of good innovations, but, my opinion is Microsoft, in it's love of bells and whistles in order to get more money, made it too complicated. I think it's got so many layers now, that few people at Microsoft even understand it. I hope with 7, they haven't just downgraded Vista, but have embraced simplicity. As an ex-military man, and a student of military history, I'd say the best weapons have been the simple ones. They last longer and are easier to maintenance. When you make something too complicated, it's more inclined to break down, harder to maintenance, and harder to fix. It's like electric windows in an auto. They're great until they break and costs a lot of money to fix. Then you wish you had a crank handle, instead. I'm hoping 7 isn't just a stripped down Vista - because a lot of the features were worhtwhile - but a re-thought Vista.

G'Day,
I have been using Windows 7 since the beta came out and i can say that it beats the socks off of Vista (it is not a stripped down version, just improved). It is certainly faster and the UAC is easier to live with and just about every program that i have thrown at it has worked, fortunatly being based on Vista, apps and drivers for Vista generally work well with it,so no long waits for apps like when Vista first arrived. As an experiment when the beta was about to expire (on the RC version now) i deleted half the registry and many files in the Windows folder and it fired up first time, the system restore feature is very robust, to distroy Windows i had to turn off restore and delete some hidden files before a BSOD appeared.I have Vista on one PC and to be honest i have not had any problems with it, sure the system requirements need to be fairly high, Windows 7 runs on lesser specced machines which is good, I have to say that i will be happy to use Windows 7, just hope that the price is a little more realistic than the price of Vista when it was released.

Thanks a lot! Really good feedback. I'd say that's about as good as users could hope for. I'm afraid a lot of well intentioned people were hoping they'd dump everything about Vista and develop 7 out of XP, but I never thought that was a realistic possibility. An improved Vista was really the most likely outcome. Me, as good as XP was, my hope was for an improved Vista or a complete revolution in OSs, and I doubted the latter was a realistic option, either.
