Is it just me, or are there numerous product comment posts today (May 6, 2009) that are identical. I have seen one that comes from the same person using two different names, but several others that are completely identical including the names. Is there a glitch in the system that has randomly copied the same posting later in the day?

ppl might think it dont go through and hit again.

That is a thought, but I have seen 3 identical ones from White Rabbit. That is definitely out of character. That is also what made me wonder if there was a glitch.

I think it's related to the server problems that are causing people to get "502 Bad Gateway" when they try to post comments (and to download).

Hi Frique, which posts have been duplicated?
Posted 15 years ago # -
Yours, for one, Whabbit. It seems obvious that it's mainly confusion related to resending because of the 502 errors. I, for one, have one post I'm not sure got through and may resubmit with a slight change.
Specifically, your game post, #14 at 3:50 board time, is also at #25 at 4:50, minus the comment about Mutli-Stage Recovery; Ashraf's has identical posts at 18 and 20, except the #20 post also includes, "What is with the continual “502 Bad Gateway” error on GOTD today?" and is sent under his Lakjin account, which points to him sending it twice; John asked the same question in two different ways 9 minutes apart, and that makes me think he was having trouble getting through, and the confusion got started off by identical posts in 5 and 7 that Adrian sent through on two different accounts. Some thought he was just trying to get his opinion in twice, but since none of the duplicates were either exactly identical, of if identical, weren't on the same accounts, I suspect it's all about server problems.

Hey Watcher13 - What’s going on is people are posting plagiarized reviews and the GAOTD community overall does not condone that sort of thing. Basically, it all started a couple of days ago on the SoThink DHTML giveaway. The “Adrian” you are referring to was, as they say, caught “red handed” posting a plagiarized review, and I’m the person who caught him. This is an excerpt from my post that day:
"@ Adrian – No, I do not like your review because you did not write it. Your “review” was actually written by Nick Mead, the editor at Softonic. You know I think it’s admirable for you to be interested in reviewing software and having your very own site to publish your reviews. However, you’re not going to be doing neither yourself or anyone else a service by stealing other peoples hard work then calling it your own. There is word for that, and that word is “Plagiarism”! It’s also a violation of something called “Copyright” and authors do not take too kindly to those people who have violated their rights. I would HIGHLY recommend that in the future you cite your sources of information when you’re publishing them verbatim. If you check out this link, I believe you’ll see that your “review” is verbatim to his. Have a Nice Day"
Watch, follow this link to the Softonic web site; http://sothink-dhtmlmenu.en.softonic.com/ then compare the “reviews”. Quality feedback is something the GAOTD team uses to entice developers into using their services. But when reviews are plagiarized, it lowers those standards and hurts the entire community. Now as for yesterday’s GAOTD, Multistage Recovery, check out the posts by #10 Sheba and #16 Fubar among others; is what they’re talking about “just a server problem”?

Ah! right. I remember trying to send it a second time after I'd purged my system and rebooted my modem and router which seemed to cure the 502 error. to be honest I hadn't a clue what the error meant until pavid explained. My post still hadn't been accepted when I poed a slightly attenuated one an hour later. :)
Maybe the site is getting overloaded? It's been online for two and a half years now; with new software being posted frequently, most of those who came here right from the beginning are probably still here, so the numbers will be gradually rising.
I've never had a 502 error before. Thanks for answering my question. :)

Sorry, Renegade, you misunderstood me. In fact, I wrote a comment yesterday in response to Phil's typically snarky post that is was indeed textbook plagarism. As a former broadcaster, it's definitely in my field. But no one saw it, because I couldn't get it to punch through. You're right, and I don't blame the community for having that reaction. I was just talking about the technical end of it. Even if Adrian is posting plagarised reviews twice under two different accounts, the Gateway problems we've been having surely explain the other 3. It was just writing about the problem Frique originally brought up.
I don't blame you though. Adrian's method here seems a little weird. I've looked on the page he links. Detailed blog posts on freeware (Is that his work or someone else's page, and are those plagarized, too?) - but no mention I've seen of the GOTD giveaway's on that page. In any case, why publicize it with plagarism? It reminds me of something from an episode of the Cosby Show. Why present a supposedly sumptious meal on a garbage can lid?

From where I sit - seeing the multiple posts being approved and plagarism posts remaining only says to me that whoever is moderating and approving these comments isn't actually reading the posts and following what is going on. I didn't think the comments site could actually drop in quality much further (with moderation) but it seems I was wrong.
Even the mindless "this is good" and "I've been waiting for this" comments have replaced the "I'm first to post" comments - I remember the days when people actually used/looked at the software before leaving a comment about it.
Perhaps the moderator is too busy to read all the comments, or doesn't speak english?
Looks like we are back to "banana banana banana"

Thanks for the insight everyone. I thought I might be losing my mind for a minute there. I did not see as many duplicates in today's comments. There are still some though that are almost word for word duplicates. I can chalk that up to the 502 error and the lack of good (moderating?) (moderation?) that has been discussed previously. I think that it is a shame to see this though. It makes GOTD look like a second rate website. Let's hope that the powers that be are able to solve this quickly.

(Is that his work or someone else's page, and are those plagarized, too?)
Judging from the fact that a lot of his posts are copy + paste from FreewareGenius I am going to say all of it is plagarized.

Hi, BuBBy... for some reason I was under the impression that you were the one (or one of the ones) moderating the giveaway remarks. I guess because once you were explaining what would pass through and what would get tossed, and I thought it was quite informative. So you're not the one sitting there waving the wand! I guess there's more people back there than I'm picturing, and it's not just a skeleton crew? Glory be. *&:-D
