This is the closest forum I could find for program errors.
I get this error when I go to open ConvertVid.
Other people left comments with the same error.
access violation at address 00692c78 in module ‘convertvid.exe’, read of address 00000024

Floyd, an access violation is a glitch that generally refers to a program trying to write data to a part of your RAM that's reserved for something else. It would help us if you could give more details. Specifically, what version of Windows you're running, including any service packs you might have. XPSP1, for example.
I'm not sure whether you can get an access violation if you don't have the right permissions. Specifically, if this program requires greater privileges to write data in your machine than the average user would have. Some GOTD programs are designed to be installed - and somtimes run - as an Administrator, which is practically a full set of permissions. If you're running Vista, you can try running it as an Adminstrator. If you've never done it: right click on the desktop icon and you'll see run as an Adminstrator in that menu. When you click it, you'll get a notice from the User Account Control asking if you want to run the software and, of course, you do. This, as I say, is under Vista.
I don't know if low permissions can cause an access violation, but some sharper people here will. But you could try that while your waiting. If this program was going to do any harm, you'd probably already have heard of it.Posted 15 years ago # -
Vista64 SP1, 4gb mushkin 1600, intel e8500,intel dx38bt,ati4870, need more ?
I installed it as admin and even right clicked to run as admin and I get the same error. UAC is off. I tried running it in compatibility mode also as Xpsp2, same thing.
The program still comes up after clearing the error and converts, so maybe it is just a 64bit issue.
Thanks.Posted 15 years ago # -
64 bit issue sounds reasonable, although I saw one or two people in the comments that said it worked on 64. Doesn't specify on the developer's site. Or maybe it's conflicting with something you're running in the background. Some programs try to target specific parts of your RAM and reserve them. And ConvertVid may be trying to access one of those addresses. You could try turning some things off, temporarily. Or use your MSConfig to use your Selective Start option to not load any of you're startup items, and then reboot. Good luck!

Hi BPFLOYD, I got the same error message on XP SP2. However, after I exited ConvertVid, and then brought it back up again, the error message went away (and hasn't been seen since).
Hope the same happens for you.

well watcher13 you would figure it could find its own ram, I have plenty.
I exited many times and rebooted, same error Suze.
Must be my luck. ;)

I'm not trying to argue with you Floyd, but if that were true, the error wouldn't exist. You'd think in theory that programs would just use any available memory. But Windows and developers sometimes try and use specific addresses. Here's a developer's discussion as an example.
I wasn't thinking at the time, but it can also be caused by bad disk sectors, bad RAM, or malware, but usually is a software conflict. I'm assuming as new as your system is, you don't have bad hardware.http://blogs.technet.com/askperf/archive/2008/06/03/access-violation-how-dare-you.aspx
One thing I didn't think of though, ConvertVid might require you to manually configure a Vista DEP exception, though nobody mentioned it. Usually Fubar mentions it and he didn't this time, but I don't know if he has 64, and DEP is done differently in 64.

I cannot activate any of your programs. I get a message that says Failed to connect try again later. What can I do?
