   For quite some time now the idgits at Microsoft have been trying to force the [IMHO horrible] new outlook web app as a replacement for Windows Mail on anyone using using Win11. Mail app support ended December 31st, but so far, thankfully, they haven't removed the app itself from Windows. [They have several times unpinned Mail from the TaskBar.] And so far it works the same as it has been for the last few months -- start Mail, new outlook opens, click the Settings icon [gear] on the menu bar, click general on the left, click About on the right, scroll down and click open Mail. I just leave it running for the rest of the day, minimized to the TaskBar. The Neowin article links to a Microsoft page saying that you can uninstall new outlook, though you cannot prevent it from being installed, and it shows you a PowerShell command to make that happen. If you do that in Win11 it works for the few minutes it takes for the Store to reinstall new outlook. I have no clue if that's what will happen in Win10 as well.

   Windows Mail now seems to be dead. Just pure meanness on Microsoft's part, since they could have left it alone and just not updated it any longer -- the now very old Windows Live Mail still works for example. IMHO the only advantage of this is that those working for Microsoft *may* get the answer to the question: Is there such a thing as Karma? I would think the millions [billions?] of people cursing them daily for this latest feat of arrogance might be enough to find out.

   When you open Mail it's now disabled by a message window that won't go away unless you click the button to open the [horrible, terrible, nasty] new outlook, which of course closes Mail. I found that after using one of their PowerShell commands to remove the new outlook, when you click that same button to open new outlook the message window goes away so you can access the Mail window. BUT, it will not access my Gmail or Outlook accounts to download mail.
