Hello badsouth. There have been several threads here listing great free graphic software titles.
Look in the graphics section of "Now Here's A List That Should Please Just About Anyone" for links to several.
You can search through the "photo editor and enhancement program for free" thread for more forum member favorites, along with links to other related threads.
And here is "Is There a Photo Editor That Does Layers?". I realize there is a lot of duplication, but some members have described their reasons for choosing one program over others, in their posts. This should help you in making your selection(s).
I'm sure you will find something that you like from the links above. Have fun!

There are a bunch of free photo editors. I prefer photofiltre, myself. It has a ton of features, but the main reason is I can take a screenshot and open it then paste it with a right click and do whatever extra things you choose to do with the pic.
this link is where I brought it up, before I knew bunches of other people already had

Paint.net is a wonderful free program. And it does more than just give you the ability to edit. You can work with layers, you can save as gif and jpeg and way more. Never have I found a prof program that did better than this free one ;-)
Oh, and it's very easy to use, it has a wonderful "undo" button lol!
Have fun!Posted 15 years ago # -

Paint.NET is free image and photo editing software for computers that run Windows.
It features an intuitive and innovative user interface with support for layers, unlimited undo, special effects, and a wide variety of useful and powerful tools.
An active and growing online community provides friendly help, tutorials, and plugins.
It started development as an undergraduate college senior design project mentored by Microsoft, and is currently being maintained by some of the alumni that originally worked on it.
Originally intended as a free replacement for the Microsoft Paint software that comes with Windows, it has grown into a powerful yet simple image and photo editor tool.
It has been compared to other digital photo editing software packages such as Adobe® Photoshop®, Corel® Paint Shop Pro®, Microsoft Photo Editor, and The GIMP.

http://www.pcfreunde.de/download/d8563/gimp/43638-m0RocICsLq/Is like a free version of Adobe Photoshop - you can do anything with GIMP.
Paint.net and GIMP are the best! :)
But I like GIMP more, because its Open Source.Posted 15 years ago # -
If you like GIMP - but you are used to Photoshop,
GIMPshop is a modification of the free/open source GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), intended to replicate the feel of Adobe Photoshop. Its primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP.

The makers of the popular Virtual Photographer plug-in for Photoshop also have a no-hassle stand-alone EDITOR for enhancing digital photographs. Virtual Studio is a small package that boasts quality effects and is "virtually" idiot-proof. Get it here:
