Please explain this. Does it mean Hotmail won't work anymore?
Terri218: Hotmail is a provider of mail facilities. Windows Mail is an app to receive, compose and send mail. You can use Hotmail with many mail apps. So, if you do not like the new Outlook app, you can use a third party app. Like Thunderbird.
Whew.Thanks.
In case it's any help...
There are a bunch of 3rd party apps to send & receive email, and you can always log into the individual web sites for your different email service providers. You might also be able to set up one email account to receive emails from another service provider.

Whether that's worth it or not is up to you. The new outlook app does work [mostly], and while the GUI is more complicated, so it takes longer to get the same basic stuff done, the fact that it works may be all that matters to you. I said mostly because on lower powered devices like our laptop with an Intel i3 CPU I have had times when new outlook seemed to stall when you start it, having to end it in Task Mgr., then try again. Switching your email accounts over to the new outlook is straightforward, and happens automatically for Microsoft email services like Outlook, Hotmail etc.
Microsoft had a few different outlook apps, including the web-based version they're forcing on everyone now, consolidating everyone on the same app to I assume eliminate the cost of maintaining several versions. To many, myself included, ending Windows Mail just seems, well, mean-spirited. IMHO this is reinforced by their removal of the toggle switch in the new outlook app to go back to Windows Mail, followed by having the new outlook app start every time you try to start Mail. What hurts is that Windows Mail is I think almost universally recognized as much better / faster than new outlook.
I've read that you can uninstall the new outlook, keeping an eye on the Store, and clicking the option to pause the automatic installation while it's in progress. That allegedly keeps the new outlook from being installed, so you can use Windows Mail uninterrupted. I haven't tried that -- I start Mail when I fire up the PC, switch back to Mail from new outlook, since it opens as soon as I click the Mail icon, then just leave it minimized for the rest of the day.
