FWIW, my concern, & the reason I posted it after debating a bit, is I didn't want people getting upset needlessly.
I've seen a few articles where they talk about the theory that it's because of the new checkpoints Windows Update uses. But, Win11 24H2 has already been using checkpoints for Windows Update without 8GB left behind -- I've been running a test copy since around May, installed KB5043178 manually when it wasn't offered to non-Insiders, & Windows Update reinstalled it a week later when it was offered... that's the checkpoint system, since before it would have recognized the update was already installed [I previously installed all updates manually with my tablet, and that's how it *worked*]. Second, FWIW, Wiztree doesn't find it. Microsoft groups stuff in folders, and I don't see any folders in Windows, ProgramData, or Users holding 8.62GB [or whatever it is]. Doesn't really matter at any rate since there's nothing anyone can do about it besides wait for Microsoft to fix the bug. Disk Cleanup's estimates have always been off -- check the partition properties for disk space used before & after -- so maybe now after the uproar that'll be fixed? [Since they fired all the people responsible for QA, there has been Zero attention to details at Microsoft (unless it had to do with their paycheck). For 24H2 the fading blue/purple growing/shrinking background blob on 1st start is OFF Center -- IDGITS]
